No launch control on 1.5 TSI ACT :(

Finally today I had the opportunity to check whether my car has launch control or not.
I was suspecting that it hasn't and sadly, that turned out to be right.

Before I tried it, I drove around a little bit, to bring the coolant and oil to working temperatures.
Then I stopped, switched ESC, drive mode and gearbox all to Sport.
Put my left foot on the brake and tried to rev the engine but it stays in 1000-1200 rpm band and refuses to go further.
This tells me that my 1.5 engine does not have the feature, if I'm not missing anything.
Not a big deal but I would have liked to be able to try it once at least.
I don't know whether this was decided by a technical necessity or it was just a marketing decision to give the feature only to bigger engines.
I felt like it is another way of reminding me that I have a measly 150 HP engine and I have to make do with it.

EDIT: The curious thing is that the related section in user manual never mentions about an exception for 1.5 engines.
Such exceptions are usually stated in the user manual clearly.
But of course this one might be gone unnoticed.

In the Manual is written:

First Break Then gear Setting

Yes, I noticed that later.
But I've seen some videos where people getting the launch control without following the exact procedure.
Not much hope but I will try again.

Everyone posts in forums about gasoline engines with 140 kW and above.......

"I know how to activate the Launch Control (LC) (after the vehicle's manual). It works great."

- Temperature must be reached

- ESC off

- No steering input

- Cupra mode on

- Left foot on the brake, at least for one second

- Right foot on full throttle

- LC activated appears on the display

- Foot off the brake and off you go

The ESC OFF is the key one. Use to be able to do it in my old Altea. Ateca I might have to fumble with the screen controls, the modes... a boy racer thing that DSGs allows since they have gear boxes like racing cars.

Saw some Germans doing it once in a park with a van with DSG.... well they would have to.... about 20 years ago.

Get an EV and enter the world of E Sport ;).

I'm not so interested in doing boy racer things, just wanted to try the feature once if it was there.

No need to go to screen for switching between ESC modes in mine, because engine start button is on the steering wheel and the usual place of it on the center console is taken by a ESC button. One single push takes it to Traction Control off, and a long push to ESC Sport. There is no complete ESC Off mode but it is not relevant anyway. The manual tells to set it to one of either modes other than the default ESC On.

As for an EV, it is not my thing at all. Maybe only if I had to, let's say 10-15 years later, if and when we're forced to discard ICE ones.

😉 the traction control button to off is the secret weapon on the 2wd Altea on snow with a DSG. You want wheel spin to get a grip. The only time I turned it off. 4 drive Ateca I twiddle the knob to 4Drive although it doesn't snow much round here. Off road doubles up as snow on 4drive dsg. You don't race in diesels although I've liberated the Sport FeC so I know the slow revs of a diesel. Just a side effect of the mib2 high toolkit. Those with petrols know their off road data 🫠.... as it liberated all the marketing screens for Sport and off road whatever model you had.
