No bluetooth audio streaming. Who's the culprit?

It could be a possability, although there are options on VCDS to enable/disable Bluetooth Audio as it was not given as an option initially.

Best thing to do is bring the foam forwards (probably held down by velcro). No need to unplug the unit, but you should be able to get the bluetooh unit out from the foam (its wedged in) carfully without breaking the foam.

Either take a snap of the label with the part numbers or write them down.

There should be a SW: xxxx and HW: xx and also a production date like 14/12

After eventually getting the unit out, I was able to view the numbers. They are SW: 1020 and HW: H09. Production date is, I'm assuming 05/11
Are you able to tell me what these mean? Unfortunately I have no idea. Thanks

Was there a large Part Number on the label.

Something like 7P6 035 730 (There will also be a letter at the end).

Nothing with a letter at the end. The largest number at the top is 5K0 035 730.

Also says Model: UHV if that's of any use?

Wish I could post a photo!

Ok that model "should" have Bluetooth streaming from what i can see.

So you either need Bluetooth streaming enabling via VCDS.

or if it is enabled try doing the following:

1) Pair phone with vehicle
2) Start playing audio on phone
3) Press Aux on the HU (keep pressing)

It may be enabled and you just need to get into the correct Aux bit.

Which HU do you have?

Ok cool.

I think my dad has VCDS, will need to check for sure when I get home.

I've pretty confident in saying I have the RCD 310

The RCD310 does support Bluetooth Aud input, so it will be a case of getting it in the right menu or enabling it via VCDS.

Where abouts are you?

Ah, you're joking!!! Ha, typical. Not a problem, now I know it can be done, I'll look into getting it sorted. Thanks a million for your help though. Appreciate it

I'm pretty sure your BT unit does support BT audio streaming, it's just not enabled from factory, as it happened to me with my initial setup.

As HasF said, this option can be easily enabled through VCDS, however, it is very likely that the audio output will only come from half of your speakers (probably your left side ones), meaning that there's only one channel wired from your HU to your BT unit. This can be fixed in no time by your local car audio shop, just make sure to hand them the following pinout layouts:

Please keep us informed on the results you get.

Thanks Vague. I would like to have thought either of the previous 2 owners would've had this enabled, but alas.

Thanks for the links, I'll pass them on when I eventually get it enabled.

Hi there - was just googling this issue as I have exactly same with my Ibiza Cupra 2012. As it has been a few years, wondering if there is a tech solution now? Heard you can buy something that plugs in permanently into the AUX socket, but cant find that comment again.... but maybe there is an easier solution?

Advice appreciated! :)

Hi all. I have read through this post as I think I am in the same boat as some were in this chat. I have just bought a Copa 1.2 tsi and cannot stream music or NAV (this is my wife's car - I have a newer Skoda from 2017 which does all of this stuff). I will take a look at the BT Control Unit under the seat to see what I have. Pretty sure it is RCD310 HU but it has no BT-AUDIO option. So it could need a new BY UNIT or maybe some VCDS coding and defo do not want music just out of one side of the speakers!

I wonder though if it might be quicker and easier just to upgrade the HU as there are loads of 310s for sale for not much money on ebay and some of these do look to have the BT-AUDIO option and I would assume a straight swap in out an in with no need for new cables etc required?

Any help or guidance appreciated as I realise this is a very old thread now!

If my understanding is correct (I've just bought a 2012 S Copa 1.2 TSI, so am researching this myself), the RCD-310 HU should support BT Audio - my one does - if you're not able to do so then I believe the thing to check is definitely the BT Module.

The RCD310 requires the BT module, while the RCD315 has built-in bluetooth which can be enabled provided the module is disconnected - though the drawback of that is that you will lose usage of the car's handsfree/mic setup unless you rewire it to the HU.

So I think in your case it would definitely be best to look for a new BT module, but as you say you may need to check coding etc. Some specialist eBay sellers are quite good in this respect (will code for your car) but haven't looked what's available right now.

You could look into the RCD330 (NoName 187B) which has a mic built in to the front of the unit, and will give you CarPlay/AndroidAuto. Only problems with that is you lose use of the car's handsfree kit, and also the car's USB/Aux ports (they are on the front of the HU instead). Other than that though, not necessarily worth upgrading from the RCD310 unless you're interested in adding navigation for example (RNS310/RNS315/RNS510).

Thanks for the information - I am going to take a look at my BT unit and get a code to see what I have. I have noticed looking through a lot of ebay listing for the RCD310 that I have that some have a smallish black box attached to the HU - I take it this is something different or as a replacement for the BT audio unit under the drivers seat? About a third of the units I looked at on ebay had it while the rest did not - the HU all had a code of 5P0 035 186 (no letters after it) and the wee black box on the back had a code (I think it was a little blurry) of 5P0 035 225. The black box seemed to be attached to outputs on the rear on the left side of the HU. I think all of these were actually from a SEAT as opposed to a VW. I think were a couple of SEAT units that added a code of B to the HU code above (one was defo an Alhambra with an HU code of 7N5 035 186B).

Some of the VW sourced unit (I think at least) were similar codes on the HU - usually 1KO 035 186 with either a AN, AQ, J, AA or L after that. None of these had a little black box attached at the back.

I am going to see if I can correlate these codes to built in BT-Audio options being native to the HU as some were powered up in the pics on ebay so you could see the BT-Audio as an option - my unit does not have this and I think this is all I need to 'see' for it to work.

At the mo I am simply using an AUX in cable from the iPhone headphone jack (I have an old 6s!) or my wife (who has an 11 and no standard headphone socket uses an adapter that works) to stream NAV and tunes from google and Spotify so it work just fine using that - not tried to phone using it though....

Not sure what you mean about the black box, are you sure that's not just the connector to the back of the head unit? (VW quad lock plug)

I've been messing around with the head unit and bluetooth module in my 2012 Leon and have found the following:
- The car came with BT module 7P6035730F, and I also tried an 7P6035730N off ebay, the latter of which is newer (2014) and should support A2DP.
- Both BT modules can stream audio fine to the RCD-310 head unit which came with the car, though neither work with steering wheel controls and track titles on the HU/MFD.
- An RNS-310 head unit produced the same result as above, though I did read somewhere that a software update could allow it to do titles/controls.
- Finally I tried an RNS-510 and this works perfectly with both bluetooth modules, displaying track titles and allowing me to skip back/forward using the stereo or steering wheel controls.

I would check your BT module model number under the front RH seat and it will also show you the week/year it was manufactured. In my case it was the head unit that made the difference, but if you're getting no audio streaming at all then I'd suggest you need a replacement BT module.

This page gives some more info on the various bluetooth modules: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Telephone_Retrofitting
One thing to bear in mind is that the bluetooth display name will be the car it came from - i.e. the one I got off eBay is called SKODA_BT. I'm not sure if there's a way to change it but something to be aware of!
