1) Of course it is possible to remap the VAG turbodiesel engine to produce significant power gains across the rev range without producing extra smoke.

2) Black smoke is part-burned fuel, evidence that the limits of the combustion process have been reached. This can be from overfuelling due to poor boost/fuel mapping, or from trying to deliver power at higher revs. It's generally undesirable, but it depends on your ultimate aim. Some are happy to push into the smoke region if it will deliver still more power.

I'm still quite happy with my standard 150BHp, and don't feel a need as yet to try for more. I'd need to budget for a replacement clutch and to up the brakes to 312mm as well. And to answer the unspoken question, I would want a map that did not produce more smoke. I'll upsize the disks when they need replacing in any case.

I intend to eliminate the smoke my engine currently produces by getting full-function VCDS and turning the EGS down to a minimum. I disconnected the EGS in my old TDI110, but the 150 will light up the CEL if I just disconnect the electrical connector from the N75 valve.

"No smoke No poke" :)

When i was on the way i was hopeing that it would be healthy and do around 147-150bhp So when i see 167bhp i was gobsmacked then thought it must of had a tuningbox from ebay or something.I must admit i thought it was quick when i took it out for the first proper drive.I had a mondeo ST Tdci (155 bhp heavier more tourque)before and the FR felt quicker but i put it down to weight. Also to tie in the over thread my car doesnt smoke that much either. On the rollers there was a slight puff on the initial build up in 5th when the turbo started to get going but that was it,So far so good only owned it a week and already very happy. She feels tight and tourquey has good mpg and looks good.I was a bit er Snoby i admit when it came to the initial purchase and i underestimated the Seat's But i have been very surprised with the build quality and drive.I am converted.

PS ..diesal Knocking always wondered why!!Great info..

These are great in standard form.how many cars with 167bhp can return 58mpg on a run.Im gona start my adventure with exterior mods untill I save enough to get a clutch then map.I don't think I'll put a pipe on I will probaly do just the mufflerectomy.Aparently this on its won will give 6.8bhp.

Drove from the alps to calais last week in my Standard FR on snow tyres. 540 miles on 45 liters 53mpg at around 80mph not bad. With the right map i hear you can get better MPG? Not the case with the Petrol.
