New thread - old topic. Towbars on LC and LCR

Hi guys, noobie here.

Looking at a Leon Cupra or a Leon Cupra R at the moment which is dual purpose. Get me from A-B with comfort, style and with pace whilst also trailoring my track day car.

I've read endless threads in the search function about Yes you can have one, no you can't, so-and-so's got one etc... but these date back 18-24mths.

Was there a definitive solution? I called my local dealership today which said "Yes you can fit a tow bar to a Cupra R, BUT its not an official SEAT one, its aftermarket...."

I'm going to call Brink tomorrow to see but I'm puzzled as to why its a problem. My 700kg trailer (with classic mini) isn't going very far and the car I'm looking to buy would be out of warranty this year..

Any thoughts or opinions on this matter appreciated.

Si. :)

should be ok on the cupra.however according to the owners maual for the cupra r it states that using a towbar may cause overheating so advises not to use one.

"May cause overheating" ;) I best tow slowly and safely then ;) ..... The trailer/towbar people are calling me tomorrow with the answer so hopefully we'll see!

i really hate to say this publicly, but if you're after a car which will " Get me from A-B with comfort, style and with pace whilst also trailoring my track day car."

have you considered Subaru???

Impreza or Legacy, both amply fast and comfortable, and you won't even notice a trailor on the back.

Just dawned on me - if its not possible - I think I'm going for an Audi S3 instead as it appears that its tow-bar friendly. :)

buy my mondeo diesel and have change! lots of it!
Must say, from the pics it's a very nice Mondo diesel!!!

The Cupra R manual states that the LCR Must not be used for towing. It may not be the engine that overheats, but other parts may instead. For instance, the clutch is a nice weak spot - even before I had my LCR chipped, the clutch would slip from time to time!! Especially when pulling away...

Sheck if the S3 really can tow - it is afterall the same engine as is in the LCR!

Really though, if you're towing, have you thought of a Leon Cupra TDi?
