Hey guys, currently browsing the automotive pages for a new car. Was unaware that i would get such a good quote for a seat leon cupra r. Having always loved them i now have my heart set on getting one but wanted to ask the experts on a few things.

Firsty how much should i expect to pay, i have seen a few on autotrader that i like and there are some on pistonheads which look great.

The prices i have seen range from £4500 to about £10k. Was looking to pay around £6/7k will this price buy a decent one?

Most of the cars around have a lot of miles on them, any reliability issues with them or are they quite reliable.

Please advise anything you would want to warn/advise a new owner!!!

Thanks in advance guys,

Woza. :D

TBH, I think you'll stuggle to find LCR's in your price range. Most of the early cars seem to be going for around £9-10k at the moment. Are you sure the ones for £4.5k are LCR's and not just cupras?

What sort of condition / age / miles are you after?

I'll gutted if you could get an LCR for 4.5k! :(

10 is much more likely for a good one. Expect to pay a bit more at a dealer as usual.

Always be aware of autorader and egay prices. They often reflect a distorted view of the market.

they may just be cupra's, im not entirely sure on the difference. There are a few in this forum in the for sale section which arent too expensive, thats why im so curious!! plus the insurance quote makes it even more appealing!!!

any more advice guys, thank you very much for your quick response, much appreciated. if allowed i will send a link to a car i have seen which isnt too expensive which i believe to be a leon cupra r!!!

Let me know, thanks again.

Have a look here:
http://www.seatcupra.net/knowledge_base/knowledge_base/seat_leon_faq.html

It explains the differences between all the Leons.

i will have a look at that a bit later on, when im not at work!

it appears that the ones i were looking at were in fact just cupra's, didnt know there were two different types.

So any advice on the cupras? running costs, performance etc????

any first hand experience?

Does the article explain everything?

Thanks again and apologies!!!

the cupra is a great car.

one other thing to bear in mind with the leon cupra. (not R) is that it got facelifted i think around 2001.
The price range you state probably includes pre face lift and post facelift.

Basically, the early cupra, around (2000) were high spec, eg leather, memory electric seats, cruise control, auto wipers, auto dimming mirrors etc.
then later on they dropped the leather electric seats and other gizmos but gave it a nicer body kit.

There are a few early ones that were updated so they have the good looks and all the bits too.

what year were you looking at.

i know of an 2000 x reg cupra, with leather etc, low mileage and facelifted.
nice car!

Hi mate

FYI - I purchased a 2003 Leon Cupra R about 2 months ago privatley from Autotrader. Superb purchase well happy :D

I paid 10k for mine with fitted armrest, brand new MOT, new tyres and 42000 miles on the clock.

I would advise looking for something with less than 50k on the clock especially in the Cupra R version. Dont expect to pay any less than 9k for a 2003 cupra R especailly from a dealer. For example the same model and year as mine with 5000 more miles on it cost a whopping £13-14k woowee prolly just paying for the warranty..

Anything older than 2003 in the cupra R model look to pay about 7-8k i have seen some on piston heads up north for that in Flash Red, very nice.. [B)]

Anywayz hope this helps - Go for the Cupra R version your only wish you had when you see one fly past ya.. hehe ;)

Just got a quote for a cupra r and i cant believe the difference in price between this and the cupra. i think its worth saving a lot of money on both insurance and the car price for the sake of 30 horsepower.

so does anyone have any experience of the cupra, help me out!!!

its between that and an audi a3 quattro turbo with 180bhp!!!

got one myself couldnt really afford the R for insurance etc but you get a remap exhaust induction kit youll be looking at around 240 bhp and will cost around 900 quid or so and will be able to beat standard R's their is so much you can do to them its unreal best car ive ever bought!
and as for the a3 i belive there the same engine just four wheel drive version! but i may be corrected as i usually am!! lol

I couldnt agree more. That is the sensible option. Though dont be one of these people that buy one and spend hundreds modifying it to get the performance and power of the cupra R with a little extra. You'd been better off and probably saved yourself money in the long run buying a cupra R.

The normal Cupra's are still very nice. Bear in mind you dont get the Brembo red brakes nor the cupra R body kit IMO looks more aggresive.

I beleive the Cupra R is the same engine as the S3 and has similiar characteristics of the audi TT engine. Get an S3 quattro or Cupra R you know ya wanna.. :D

Whatever you decide your option for both cars very nice!!!

not too far at all, i often visit old basing as a friend lives there so i know basingstoke quite well. ive heard it referred to as other things but you can call it dallas if you wish.

Im really not sure what to do on the car front. The insurance quote on the cupra is very appealing and there are some very nice examples on the market at the moment at very decent prices. Have also found a nice a3 quattro but this has a lot of miles on it, as do most of the audis and also the insurance is more expensive. The cupra r is way out of the question as the insurance is far too much. Found a lovely cupra on the classifieds section of this website and also over on pistonheads.

Need to get an autotrader and have a decent look, do you have any first hand experience of the cupra. i need to really do some calculations. cupra looks like the best bet at the moment but need to sort out mpg and maintenance costs, compared to the audi. have also been looking at mercedes, my friend recently bought a clk 200 which is a great car for the money and isnt much more expensive that either the seat or the audi. such a predicament!!!!

help me out!!!!

I couldn't justify the Cupra R to the misses or the bank manager or well anyone else (was getting married and getting skint  ) so I got the Cupra about 4 months ago I love it :funk: , its great fun and really comfortable.
Depends on what they are going from but would deffo recommend getting the Cupra for the power. I had the 1.6s Leon different league  .
Paid 10k for my 03 Cupra but it only had 22k on the clock and was immaculate probably paid too much but was from a stealers so I think it was ok :D
Didn’t want to get a high mileage Cupra R purely because they start to need things doing around 50,000 miles going on reading a few threads.
Plus if you want a Cupra R before 2005?? is a 210bhp not the 225bhp one still more power than the Cupra but still not masses more and a stage 1 remap will give you around 200bhp. Mines standard at the moment but I’m sure in the future it will get a little tinkering. ;)

If you get one you want to get a 2003 with a face lift as said above looks slightly more modern and has nicer 17" alloys

Oh yeah on the fuel front I’m getting between 25-30 mpg but I drive it quite hard and love the sound of the Turbo spinning up with the windows down.

My mates got a normal cupra and its nice too, he could prolly get 8k for 52 plate with 25k on clock
Its really fast too. 180bhp.

Who have you tried on the insurance side fo things! im 24 my last insurer wouldnt even insure me for the LCR. some people quoted me over £2k but then a mate driving a Civic type R told me to try elephant..

having only crashed and wrote off a car 2 years ago they quoted me £850 that was almost a £1000 cheaper than the other closest insurer. :funk:

As stated here mate the normal cupra is a lovely car. I have driven it and really the only difference in drive IMO the cupra R just fills that little bit more solid, may have something to do with the traction control..

If your contemplating a few models - definatly consider the Golf GTI anniversary.. they too are 180bhp. I drove my cousins only a few months back and it was a superb drive. Felt kinda jealous till i got back into my LCR ;) :D

Whos ya mate in Old basing?? I live in Lychpit basically right next door to old basing.

must admit i think if i wasnt sold already i am now, also driving behind one earlier made me realised just how nice the car is!!!
