Hi, just wondering is it possible to change the screen on mk3 to the new 8 inch one? Can anyone give me part number maybe? There's probably none on the market as the car is so fresh but maybe someone "knows the topic" and can share some knowledge.

It's possible. There's a Turkish fella on Instagram who has modified the front and rear light clusters and the 8" screen on his MY16 Cupra. It's all in Turkish so no idea what he's saying about it !

It is possible but requires a lot of hacking of software etc due to component protection on the car.

Not if you have MY15 or MY16 (if you ha e 6.5inch screen already) , it is a straight swap as both have same screen resolution and you need to cut a bit of plastic to make extra space to fit. For older builds - yes it would require extra work...ive found info on Spanish forum how to swap 5.8 to 6.5 with all that is needed and you can do it directly to 8inch screen... It's just the problem of getting the part itself...looks like it's hard to get online

I assume the 'bit of plastic' is the dashboard. Why hack your lovely car about for no extra value?

No it's not the dashboard, it's a little bit behind the screen, so essentially a part of plastic that is hidden behind the dashboard. You can see it on the pictures in the facebook gallery of the guys that did it. And to be honest, there's a significant difference in the size of the screen...once I've seen it... It is much nicer ;)

You still need to disable component protection.

Sorry I've only noticed that the facebook link I have pasted before was not working. It has been fixed now so you can go and look at the photos.

Apparently you don't have to disable component protection for the screen as it is not reporting back via can, and as long you have 351 firmware (for non nav) or 674 (with navigation) its all you need to do... Just swap them as they have the same resolution and connectors ;) if I'll place my hands on one of the 8inch screens I'm on with new project ;)

Il have a 8" screen on my drive next week (Got a Cupra ST 4WD on loan) but my MY14 doesn't have the correct processor in dashboard (I have the 5.8" setup)

Yeh I read that many times, I was talking to MQB Coding about it they said its not that easy. If you use ODIS to turn of component protection it still wont work correctly. The processor has to be hacked to work fully which requires sending it off. Was going to cost around £1000 so thought bugger it lol.

Yeh I had the off road stuff on the Ateca the other week when I took it off road.

Ok if anyone is willing to spend 425euro(delivered) ive found a guy in Spain who has the screen available...im not that desperate to be honest, but if someone has that kind of money sitting around I can give you his details ;)

Oh and from my research that is around 100 euro cheaper than anywhere else.

Is there a lot of work to swap out the 6.5 for the 8? I’ve seen some people on the Spanish forums have done it and it seemed to work for them, but as AndrewJB says and a few others, surely the component protection is going to prove to be a huge road block?
