New diesel sound..........

Hi everyone.

Hoping someone here has experienced the same.

I started up this morning, my god it was cold!! lol Then the trip comp 'bing'd' to tell me it was 4 degrees!

Nice!!

Now't odd yet but as the journey went on it got colder.

This was when it started...............

When I pulled up at lights, junctions etc and just idling a new, strange and concerning sound started. The sound was like a throbbing. Um, maybe the sound of one of those exhausts you get on a numpties Saxo!!! lol It wasn't very loud but it was noticeable.

The sound only happened or was only noticeable when ticking over. I wasn't aware of it when moving.

Now maybe it's an coincidence but i'm assuming it's temperature related. Colleagues at work suggested it was a pump of some sort to warm the diesel???!!!

Can anyone here help or offer advice. I'm wondering if it's something more sinister.

Thanks for reading my ramblings and please accept my apologies if you own a boy racer saxo! lol

Cheers

Andy

I had the same 'bing' this morning, followed by another to tell me the fuel was low. It scares the **** out of me every time as I think something is broken!

Does your engine have DPF and if so did you notice the revs being any higher at idle. I only mention this as I think my car was doing the regen thing earlier today and made a bit more noise at idle. It cleared with no problems after driving for a while at around 2k rpm as the manual suggests and went back to approx 750 rpm.

Sorry if this is irrelevant but it is the only thing I can think of at the moment.

Hi

Thanks for the info mate, it's all useful. :D

Mine is a 1.9TDi with a DPF. To be honest I didn't notice higher revs. It didn't sound higher anyway.

After an hour or so at work (fretting!) I went to check it and it wasn't doing it anymore. Temp was showing as 3.5 degrees at this time. It didn't do it on the way home either, which is good. Obviously it had warmed considerably by this time.

It's another early start in the morning. I'll see if it does it again. This time i'll monitor the revs.

Thanks again matey.

Cheers

How did you get on?

Hi Simon.

Thanks for the interest. Not as cold today. I didn't get any sounds today. The car behaved as normal, very well and responsive! ;)

Apparently, it's a cold one Thurs/Friday according to bbc weather right now. I'll see what happens then.

Cheers matey.

Btw, where abouts in Bristol you from. I lived in Yate for most my life, a Wolves man now tho. My family are Yate, Southmead and Bedminster area.
