£19.5k.... Does this include the factory fit satnav as shown or is this the base price? I thought they'd pitch it in at £18,995 to keep the gap close to Ford and Vauxhall and slightly further away from the Golf GTi... Looks very nice mind you....

£19.5k is without Sat Nav. Still at least a £1000 difference though compared to a '5 door' Golf GTi, and it doesn't have the same specifications. You;d have to add around another £1.5k to the base level of the Golf, so between £22k-£23k. And you still wouldn't have Sat-Nav.

Its more car than you got with the £18k Leon Cupra R, based on 5% inflation, i think its about right. I must of, cause i've ordered one. :p

Back from the dead

i drove the S3 last saturday and its very.........well, OK I guess.

0-60 was very well handled, and although I'd be pressed to say it felt like 5.5 seconds supposedly it is.

It was a case of '**** to blanket' handling, but the new Quattro makes life just a little too safe and predictable for the enthusiastic driver. I refrained from dobbing the ESP off as the salesman was on the run with us. It's a good car, but nowhere near the price they are asking for it.

I said to m0rk the other day, they have spent too much money leaning the S3 out against the competition using bespoke aluminium panels and running gear. All that cost has escalated into a car thats WAY overpriced against its peers for its dynamic abilities.

I think the Cupra is the 'better' car; however I just couldn't help but take issue with the new Mk2 exterior looks (particularly the nose) and dash plastics. Still gonna be a monumentally good car though, even at £20k.

I love Audi's, but i'd have to have a fast one, and i simply can't justify their costs, being a poor northerner.

Maybe being a poor northerner im not that fussy, but i found the fit and finish of the new Leon exceeds the Mk1, and i've no complaints about the styling.

And to be honest, every one i see on the road makes me smile, because they look very unique, they are not a plain old standard hatch with fancy wheels and a kit, they do look very different even in standard trim.

But wouldn't it be really boring if we all liked the same things. :)

I see Autocar and Autoexpress were driving the same car, judging by the reg. no. I hope they haven't been talking to each other before they form their opinions.;)

You know that once they have driven the car on our wonderful UK roads, ride quality will be their big issue. It always is.

So you're cancelling your order then?

Scott

No, going ahead still. Its committed to order now, build week 3 (2007) - or so they say.

I like it a lot, but just not worth the money. At £26k I would say it was a fair price; at £32k (with options) its daylight robbery. I even jokingly call the salesman 'the thief' (to his face). You have to order the extras to make it NOT feel like an 'ordinary' model. However its not right to live with regrets, so whats done is done. I just hope when its Revo'd its lives upto my expectation as at present from 30 - 80mph a Stg 2 Revo LCR would have it licked. As they say in the Revo ad, "Unleash the power" - once its been to Daventry maybe it will go some way to feeling like the car it should!
