The mit doesn't hold onto grains of dirt whereas the sponge does thus you swirl that dirt around the surface of the paint putting minuet scratches into the paint, that's where the swirls come from.

Always use terry towels myself, and after each wash they get washed.

Sonus drying towels do a really good job of drying the car! Seem to be highly regarded by a few people.

I've got all Sonus towels, and a few cheaper MFs for various bits. Happy with all of them.

IK usually use a aqua blade to get the majority of the water off, then use a microfibre to dry it off, would I be better with a chamois leather?

I already have some wax some may head down to halfords and get some megs stap 2, chamois leather and microfibre cloth...

Dont use a chamois or a blade!

Just get a couple of decent drying towels. Then just 'pat' the car dry.

I let the local immigrants do it in Hitchin. They jet-wash, hot wax, clean the alloys properly, wipe around all the seals, apply wet-look to the tyres and completely clear all the water off + a good chamois too....

£5 - can't go wrong ;)

i pay £2 for a standard wash

to dry and tyre shine £3

I have an Ibiza in Black Magic, and I follow the two bucket method, I use a sponge with lots of water (a very good rinse before I start), I get a quantity of sponges and get them cheap (chuck away at 30p each!!). Dry off with a combination of AG synthetic chamois and towels, then followed by;
This goes on first : http://tinyurl.com/2daupq

Very happy with the finish, I just hope it lasts as my arms were killing me, after the last time I did it!

I would get some wash mitts instead of the sponges.

And a waffle weave drying towel instead of the chamois.

Want to try and keep those swirls to a minimum! ;)

as already said, firstly get your wash technique and products sorted. This will make the biggest difference in the long run

Next as its a new car I think we can assume you will not have to do any defect correction work, so you need a paint cleanser/preparation product and then a wax.

Any of the paint cleanser will do, brand doesn't make a huge different however as we collect our new Black Magic Altea at the weekend here is what I will be doing:

Wash - two bucket method etc
Clay - pinnacle ultra fine clay
Klasse All In One - use to clean and prep the surface
Klasse Sealant Glaze - very durable
wax- Will prob use Collinite 915 - again extremely durable.

My line up is chosen by durability, I'm aiming for the highest possible durable products so I can just use a snowfoam no contact washing. Also because, its the wife car and I have enought cars to clean each week.

hope this helps

FinerDetails,
I also have a limited edition Altea and would love to see some "after" pics of your car to see what can be acheived with this colour. A word of warning though watch your hands on the brake disc shield things when washing the wheels as the edges are like razors, I have the cuts to prove it!
