i need to lower my car more ive decided... but it rubs like buggery.the 17s catch on the arches when turning, is there anything thatcan be done? do hubs for a 1.4 bring the wheels into the arch more? can i have the back of my wheels skimmed to bring them in more? ummmmm...

any other ideas, i dont know if the above 2 ideas are possible or if skimming the wheels exists but if it does i can look into it.

thankyou

looking at your signature it looks as if you would need some smaller wheels or arch work done

signature is photoshop ;)

ill get a pic up of how low the front is as reference

do you know where exactly its rubbing ?? i know on the arch but what is catching what where?? think that makes sense :)

i couldnt tell you anything about the camber mate im affraid... if it may resolve the problem im all ears :)

as to where its rubbing... the outside of the tyre when turning is literally rubbing the arch lip... i know rolling the arches may resolve this but i then feel the problem may move to rubbing on the outter arch.

ive raised it since it was rubbing and the photo shows it once it was raised... this photo shows it lowered when it was rubbing, i think that height is what im after but if its not possible then so be it

if you want it that low then not even adjusting the camber wont clear the arch (within the limits) but your only choice would be custom arch work would look the NUTS and bit low (how i like it  but m0rk could come up with an idea i havent

You'll have to look into your offset on the wheels. See if you can find the same wheels with a bigger offset.

Failing that the arches can be pulled slightly, im not positive of whats involved as iv not done it or seen it done but its a way round it. Im sure if you look around you could find it

I asked about camber, because yours look very upright in every image... like they've not been set right

therefore, you could / should get it set at about -1.5 deg's and then you won't have so many clearance problems

hmmm ill go have a word with a garage tomorrow in that case...
i need to get the tracking done aswell :( forgot about that... every garage i tried said it was too low to do so ill have to ring round...

if i ask about the camber adjustment setting to -1.5 degrees that may help aswell... so ill give that a go tomorrow aswell...

to jenk: it deffinitely rubs on the outter arch where the lip comes in, i got rid of all the bulges in the liner to stop it rubbing on those, but when turning it catches the actual arch, evidently shown from the paint thats come off bits off the arch and theslightly bent arch from where it not just rubbed but caught the arch :(

that's really poor fitment of your suspension if it wasn't aligned (and was left fouling the arches) - should take it back there really to be fixed

your car's not "that low" to prevent alignment

thats what i thought, but i tried 3 garages and they said they couldnt do it... i think its cos the backs a bit lower and so the instruments they use which fit over the tyre and into the arches wont go on. i got told to try a specialist or to try someone using older type machinary which uses lights shinning onto a wall to line it all up or something.

EDIT:
it didnt rub until i lowered it past the top of the tyre

When i had my tyres fitted i asked about alignment and they just laughed but told me of a place that could do it. They have got a flush with floor ramp

All the garages in Northampton refused to touch my car when it was lowered 60mm, all said it wouldn't get on their equipment.

Re: places not being able to sort alignment - the biggest problem I've found in the past is tyres with particularly chunky rim protectors that foul the measuring rig making it difficult to mount. That said, I've never been trying to deal with a car quite as low as some of you guys.
