You cant fit any bigger discs to you car as it is at the moment.

When you fit bigger discs you have to move the caliper further out to allow the room for the disc. this is done by changing the carrier that bolts the caliper to the bearing housing. You cant change yours as its cast into the bearing housing. So you need to change the housing to the type that accepts a bolt on carrier, like that fitted to the Cupra.

ATE make the calipers and carriers for the Cupra.

Sorry just my warped sense of humour, heavier shoes ( on your feet ) = more force applied to pedal. Braided hoses dont flex like rubber ones therefore giving a firmer more responsive feel to the brakes.

Ahhhhhh I see, thanks.

And techie how much am I looking at for new housing alone? Ish...any ideas? I say new I of course mean from a scrapyard or salvage place.

Cheers lads/.

to be honest mate, if youre only running a 1.6 i wouldnt bother, money better spent on using the power you have, it shouldnt be an issue stopping anyway... id fit some better pads, better fluid and hoses and leave it at that, spent the 1000 itll cost you to upgrade to ate and the parts needed on handling

rear anti roll bar, strut braces should help tighten things up.

maybe buy a full exhaust sytem to release a few horses, with a nice green panel filter to help the breathing.

should be a nice smooth handling ride then.

what about suspension, are you on standard

Yeah, my new 18" wheels and sports tyres have really stiffened the ride up and it sticks really well.

Going to defo get some sort of new air filter, maybe and induction kit or something, and an exhaust system if I can run to it.

My brakes are **** though.

Yeah springs are stock, but I don't wanna do tooooo much because my insurance is still in it's first year, and I'm a named driver etc...

Going to get a LCR after Uni!! :D:D:D:D:D:D <-- life time goal

add a rear arb to that and youll love it mate...

recommend changing the stock suspension, its pants...

dont have to go mad, janspeed do a nice spring and damper set for £150, i have i on mine and it is very good.

brakes may be pants but change the pads and fluid to dot 5.1 or summats like that and youll be fine, your limited on big brakes as discussed and you really need to up size the discs to minimum 312mm to achieve proper gains.

Yeah...OK, I'll look around for ATE systems when poking around scrap yards etc though.

I don't really want to lower it, maybe stiffen it though. Not sure, suspension is quite a big change and not easy to reverse if i needed to.

how hard is it to fit and remove a rear ARB? and what is the cost?

fit easy remove easier, search on here for a guide

cost is £140 for an eibach rear, check out the mk4 golf whiteline for 120 quid.... worth every penny mate.

it will improve on the oem suspension but even better on stiffer springs and shocks.

Yeah. I also REALLY want some moar power!!

New exhaust system (also looking out for a standard Cupra bumper with the exhaust cutout so I can put a nice exhaust on it), and a induction kit. not much i know, but something.

maybe get the black bits colour co-ordinated like dazs'

thanks for your help lads

The brakes on my 1.4s leon were awesome; maybe yours are just due a change of fluid; pads and discs? i put eibach springs on mine for around £100 which made a vast difference, enhanced more when i had pi shocks fitted. :)
shame i hadn't found scn at the time or i could have had a lot more ideas!!

Ahhh. There is a funny grinding noise when gently braking at low speeds...

Maybe the pads are on their way out.

Really? Ive always found them a bit over servo'd and lacking in feel.

Certainly not as good as the brakes on a DB7, found that one out when I parked a brand new 1.4 Leon in the back of one a few years ago..lol.

certainly no match for the brembos on my lcr, but for the type of car the were on they were brilliant; i would agree they did lack in feel, but i never thought they weren't going to stop me.

Brake fluid makes a hell of a difference SEAT recommend that it is changed every two years, so if it hasn't been done for a while then you may want to do that first and see how the whole car feels it will cost you about £30 but money well spent.
