Need help on brake upgrade.

OK as you all know I'm fairly new to car scene.

I was thinking of upgrading my brakes to Cupra or Cupra R brakes.

R discs are 323mm, and this means I would need some new pads and new calipers (I think).

Are the standard Cupra brakes better than the standard Leon ones? If so, would they fit?

What do I need to consider when looking at discs, calipers, or brakes in general.

As much help and as little abbrevations as possible would be great.

Cupra brakes are 312mm i think, not sure if you'd need new calipers, but you'd definately need new carriers for them. try talking to Bill at Badger 5 (ibizacupra username on here) he should sort you out.

carriers are what the calipers are mounted to. therefore different carriers are needed to space the calipers further from the hub to allow for bigger discs, and i've seen some pictures of custom carriers made by Bill, hence the previous comment

Ahhhhh I see. Ok, I'll have a good look at my brake setup soon to familiarise myself with the stuffs.

why not look at porsche brake setup, these can be had for under 450 including calipers, carriers, pads and hoses

youd need minimun 312mm discs also, but they are fairly cheap, then youd have a 4pot brake setup like the cupra r brembo for a lot less cash......

Also remember that the bigger discs and carriers sometimes require bigger/different alloys too.

Yeah I have 18" RS4 alloys! Thought of that after watching Top Gear a few weeks ago (actually I was there but that's another story)

What engine do you have?

If you e a smaller engined model then you could have FSIII brakes up front. If thats the case they you have to swap the hubs etc over as well as the carrier is integral and cannot be removed.

What are some good makes of disc etc that arent eye wateringly expensive (i.e. Brembo)

Something like this perhaps? These are (I think) standard Cupra, not Cupra R brakes, and its the non brembo caliper model.

Right if you have a 1.6 then you will almost certianly have FSIII brakes (make and model).

This means you can't unbolt your carrier so as it is you can't fit bigger brakes.

You need the front hub assembleys from a Cupra etc.

You can fit bigger discs, you just need a fair few more parts that you originally intended.

Find a MK4 Golf, Beetle, MK1 Leon, Octavia etc in a breakers that has ATE brakes on it and your laughing.

Does this mean that in all cases different size discs = new different size callipers?
