Hi all I'm looking to buy a uprated performance clutch, I've found one from Sachs in Germany for around £600 and £70 for uprated bearings.

The problem I've got is that it fits the ST and I couldn't see why it wouldn't fit the SC or 5 door for that reason, obviously the wheel base is different so the drive train would be slightly different but the mechanics of it should be identical.

If not I'm thinking of going down the MK7 Golf GTI fly wheel as it's a higher spec and 13mm thick instead of the cupras 11mm thick flywheel and getting a heylex clutch system installed

Cheers mate will ring them tomorrow, really has been a blag to figure it out. Awesome GTI recommended I trade it in for a DSG

I've left it with demon performance centre to sort it, but I just want to know it can be done and buy it now

Ha, balls to that! Dsg might be able to handle more power but for me takes some of the fun!

Exactly why I chose the manual. And on part I don't like a gearbox deciding to auto up shift when keeping my revs high and steady in a corner, that sucks

VRS Northampton list a Sachs organic clutch upgrade for the cupra 280 on eBay. Might be worth speaking to them for fitment advice.

VRS fitted the sachs clutch to my Mk3 and I am happy with it. Just be aware that it has a heavier pedal feel and needs a stronger left leg. You quickly adjust, but at first you might be concerned.

I also did the clutch return valve mod listed on this web site and have no issues with smooth gear changes, daily driveability, etc., etc.

Did you have the organic like for like, or the race clutch apparently once it beds in it's similar but slightly rougher than the organic, a month or so of on off clutch

I went for the first one, not the race one. After some months now, I don't even notice the difference unless I'm stuck in endless stop-start traffic.

I think of you go with the Sachs 4 you have to get the Golf GTI's fly wheel as it's 13mm in thickness compared to the cupras 11mm

I could bore the **** out of you and probably will any but after 4 days of searching and the following being contacted

Seat Crewe
Seat Manchester
Revo technik
APR
Vag performance
VAG tech
Awesome GTI
Demon tweeks
And finally a reply from the master race Germany Sachs.

There is several stage 2 cupras Apr and Revo that are the cupra 280/290 SC manuals

It can be done and a few have done it different ways,

Vagtech use a uprated haylex pressure plate a clutch plate with uprated bearings and a 13mm thick Golf GTI flywheel (genuine flywheel £400 there is a non gen at £200)

VRS Northampton have stock clutches on the shelf and to be completely honest I forgot what they said they do, don't think there clutch would cope with stage 2 (I may be wrong though)

And then there's the option I've tried, asking Sachs about the ST cupras uprated clutch as I'd guess it should fit on the fly but I wouldn't get warranty with it as it wasn't designed for that model

Either way stay tuned my cars booked in with Demon performance centre known them a while Petes a great engineer his Mk3 RS has just been used by milltek to base design and develop for production there full exhaust ranges on the RS MK3 he drove it 25miles be for he Revod it and starting pulling it apart.

I've signed a blank check and told him find a way if your going for stage 2 for the future just check the tolerances first and foremost. 7th of June mines being done one way or another. And one more thing make sure you get uprated bearings or it will vibrate like hell seen it on the Audi forums of a few unlucky people

And you've just made me remember VRS said the organic clutch is good for stage one but may need a destined stage 2 file.

The paddle racing would do stage 2 and after a while it would bed in feeling more like the organic clutch not race style "on & off" your fist month or so may feel fully like a race clutch though. Ring them tomorrow dude
