 im trying

but litrally after a remap people are getting clutch SLIP not knocking flywheel which indicates that 300lb ft is too much torque for a standard friction plate so standard clutch cant

"handle alot more than 300 lb ft" ;) as you quoted

You are right in what you are saying mate but it`s the flywheel that has got damaged though mate which in turn has damaged the clutch. A simple remap cannot be blamed for a flywheel failure or oil seal breaking.

Yes, my point exactly earlier on.

We are assuming here that the flywheel hasn't been off at some time (eg for lightening already??), and it was damaged /weakened in the process by somebody who didn't know what they were doing. And it is the flywheel that's the problem that's led to clutch problems.

A stripdown will reveal all.

A strip down will reveal all but he has a stock DMF which doesn`t get lightened and therefore shouldn`t have been touched unlike a SMF which does get lightened.

I do hardly any miles but have a derv. Bus to centre of Edinburgh.

3 things I don't like - idle clatter, picking up a smelly diesel pump (if you forget to put a plastic glove on), the drag effect means the back gets covered in soot.

Bought it to try a derv for the first time. Still some plus points, so I'll sit on the fence.:D

im curious as to what the mileage is on the car, my tdi cupra is near 60k and i just had cam belt changed and it was previously remapped. after a bad experience and a new turbo fitted im curious as to how long i 'might' have left and with the down time for trying to source an uprated clutch, as i see very little point in even considering putting on a std one again. a mate told me you need to buy it as a kit , something to do with plate and something else... any ideas what hes on about??

i wouldnt mind knowing avg costing for uprated clutch and where i can source one and how long it takes?!

Cheapest clutch upgrade is to just replace the pressure plate which is the first weak link. Best option is to replace the pressure plate and drive disc as you are looking at about £200 labour to fit a clutch and you don`t really want to have to split your car again if you find the uprated pressure plate isn`t strong enough by it`s self. Any garage that can fit a stock clutch can fit an uprated clutch as parts are like for like.
Allards are not far from you if you want a proper tuning place to fit your clutch.
Click on the link and scroll down to Ref 74 for prices of Helix clutches. Helix hold more torque then Sashs clutches ;)

damn i hope my clutch lasts forever at those prices!!! £700+ which excludes vat and postage.. there is also no mention of fitting......

having never seen a clutch before in the flesh, what parts do they actually consist of? is it just the disc and plate? what sort of cost are we looking at for a standard clutch?

£700 is for the top spec lighterned SMF, pressure plate, drive disc, thrust bearings which you don`t need all that. £387 + VAT for the pressure plate, drive disc and thrust bearings. Allards used to sell Sashs stuff if you want a cheaper/less torque make. At the end of the day Helix is Helix and Sashs is Sashs it makes no difference who you buy them from, phone around and get a few prices.
