i take it alls well 4 a bit if u disconnect the battery and let the ecu resest , are all plugs safely on , ie the MAF n MAP sensors

I dont understand - " i take it alls well 4 a bit if u disconnect the battery and let the ecu resest" I only touched the MAP under the recommendation of Jabba. MAF had beed totally ruled out. Are you saying that I should be disconnecting the battery and reseting the ECU?

its worth a punt , leave the battery disconnected 4 about 20 mins , reconnect it n go 4 a drive and see if its triggers limp mode straight away , can u log on vagcom as ur driving , might show wat happens straight b4 limp mode hppens , make sure u have ur radio code

Question:

1. Does the reset delete all logged codes?
2. And whats the point of the reset in relation to investigating the fault?

Unfortunately, I dont have access to vagcom for logging sorry.

But regarding this fault, I'm thinking of going back to the 2004 SX TDI at the breakers on Wednesday and removing the MAF. If he'll sell me it cheap, I'll slave it in - I'm really clutching at straws, but after this  maybe the turbo

1 yes i believe so , but if they are major they WILL return
2 itll completely reset the car , n so u might have to drive in a particular way to trigger limp mode , this will let u see wat might cause it

wat about the vacuum controlbox on the drivers side turret has this been removed as a potential cause

I believe they call this a dual N75/N18 valve. This was the first new part that was slaved in - no cure.

are u actually getting vacuum produced , has it been measured

That question I can't answer - suffice to say that I've done the brake pedal check, and the pedal drops after its been pressurised and the ignition is turned on. Also Mike at Jabba pressurised the pipe going from the solinoide to the actuator, and everything intially seems ok. But going back to my initial comments how and what do you use to take vacuum readings?

a vac gauge , reason i ask is that the vnt mechanism in ur turbo rests at the low boost position so if u lose vacuum it delivers low boost ( ie none) if it went high , youd swallow ur turbo, was just a thought,

Seems strange that the car behaves itself when going through the gears  But then when cruising and may be slipping up and down between 80 &100mph or 2800 - 3200 I seem to hit problems. The MAP defo made a difference. I think I'll go for a rest tomoz and go and get that MAF, I suppose it cant help noy having a spare MAF around - might even ask for the solinoid off the drivers strut.

need one myself , lol, dunno lost now , a few logs with vagcom would be good

Do you think its worth seeing if someone local from the site would pop out in the car to do some logs?

i might be wrong here but , i remeber reading a post on here from someone who mentioned that a brake light failure could trigger limp mode , ive tried searching and cant find the post , but im sure i read it , could be worth a try checking ur lights are working especially when ur car is in limp mode

Are you talking about the Brake Pedal Sensors ( Brake light and Brake Pedal switches) - again Mike mentioned this, but said that my braking performance would drop. But it does say that the engine performance drops if one of these switched fails. Could be put on my list for the breakers - could do with a trailer and take the whole car [B)]

OK

1. Tmoz I'll take it for a spin with the Boss and see if I can reproduce the Limp Mode.
2. If I can I'll pull over and check the brake lights.
3. If they're working I'll go fro th ECU reset and then take it for the blast.
4. If the fault is still there I'll go for the MAF and maybe anther boost solinoid of the scrap car
