As promised heres a thread re my new brakes.

got a fantastic deal from ebay (still cant believe it!) ...

DSC02038.jpg

£235 for ORIGINAL brebmo drilled discs (which cost £255 (then p&p on top!) from the TT shop alone, which is where i was going to buy them from!) and RED DOT fast road pads! :-o

and i bought some Castrol Response Super Dot 4 (290*c dry boiling point) from ebay which is being fitted by SEAT 2mo for my 2 year brake fluid Change (great timing!!!)

fitting was a doddle, expect for one thing... the pads are correct, as in size, but two of them had brake sensors (only one should!) and also the plugs on the end were wrong! so i cut the sensors off and in order to stop the brake warning light and beep coming on the dash i modified the plug from the last set of galfer pads i had just taken out.

all i had to do to trick the ECU/sensor was connect the two wires that go to the plug together to make it think there is a circuit and that the pads are thus not low. works absolutely fine, so all good. ok i wont get a light come on my dash when the pads are low, but i never did on the first set... its pointless having a brake sensor unless every pad has one imo, anyway doesn't matter! lol :)

i fitted them on friday and have done about 40 miles since... taking it very easy at the mo to bed them in... but i can deffo feel they are going to be very strong! (im used to 1045 galfer pads on oe discs, the 1045s are not as good as the OEM pads, so my new set up with the castrol fluid (being fitted 2mo!) should be a good improvement! :D)

oh and i cant believe just how heavy the discs are!

and the pics....

I've had these for a while now since (august).

I wouldn't buy them again, after two months there were cracks stemming from the drilled holes.

They do look good but pay the price from stress created by the drilled holes.

I should of listened and stuck to GROOVED!

Grooved or plain will be the more reliable.

Looking very good! Let's hope you don't have problems with the drilled holes! But to be honest, for the bargain price you paid, it's almost worth the risk of shortened disc life!

agreed, but fingers crossed! lol

il make sure i bed them in very carefully for the first 350 miles to try and help!

i really hope they dont crack, i mean they are very thick and i find it hard to believe/see that they can/could crack (tho im sure they could under VERY high pressure/use!)

also if drilled discs are so prone to cracking, surely porsche/tvr etc etc wouldn't use them and also brake manufactures (brembo etc) wouldn't manufacturer them for road cars?!

oh well fingers crossed!

James I didn't want to post any pics until the wheels were clean! When I left essex they were quite clean but 152 miles later they are covered in brake dust :(

They look great though black wheels really suit the grey paintwork.
