Not the greatest pic but have a look at this one, and yeah if it's split or perished you can usually smell whatever's in the engine bay

Just stumbled upon this thread!
Looks to be going really well Roly :)
Fitted my k04 today (well, very nearly) just wondering how you got round the heater matrix pipe? got any pics of what you did too?
I was pondering whether to try to bend it or cut it (would need a swage though & i don't know how to do that) still not sure.
I also had to bend the turbo bracket to fit!!! i don't know why it didn't fit straight on cos i was sure it was straight. you have any problems with yours?
Also noticed that new 6 point "star" bolts & washers for the turbo are not cheap off Audi lol!!!
will post up some pics asap.

Turbo wise it all bolted on fine, the bracket also lined up and fitted fine but i did take an angle grinder to the back of it as it was too close to the dp for my liking.

I had great fun with the heater pipes, initially i cut the hard pipe and added a flexi joint into some silicon pipework but was never happy with it.
I've since replaced the hard pipe with a new one and bent it so it misses the turbo and then joined it onto my silicon set up, i've also done the same for the plastic housing to heater matrix pipe aswell.

I'll try and get some pics of it up when i get home tonight

Will have another play with the heater pipe to try to get it in a better position etc.
Last thing to do will be to get the oil return pipe modded but i know somewhere that can do that for me now :)
Would love to see your pics though ;)
David.

Thanks for the pics Roly :)
I did get a little bit further than the pics but seeing yours gives me a direction to head for (tough bugger it is to bend though)
Functional is all i need then i can tighten it all up for good.
Hopefully this will help others with simlar k04 installs (more to it than just a few parts eh?) and i hope its worth it in the end
Can i just ask if you uprated your internals? i'm "slightly" worried about the 300 odd ft-lb's of torque i'm about to put through my std engine, but i know the AYP is amongst the stongest in standard form (from what i've read)
All this hard work and to throw a rod would be a disaster in both time/effott/£££ for me
