My Car Smells Like A Steam Train

I tried doing a search but wasn't quite sure what to enter! Lately I've been noticing a smell sometimes (not all the time) when I get out the car. The best way I can describe it is like a steam train. It's not particularly eggy or fuel like but maybe slightly carbon like? There's no noticeble build up of carbon round the exhaust but wondered if I am going mad?

I've had a tinking noise in higher gears at lower revs when I accelerate for a while now too (more so up hills). I've heard a similar noise on other cars but wondered what it was. Thought it may be exhaust or cat related but am unsure.

The car has a cat-back system, dynatwist and GFB hybrid BOV.

Thanks

I would of thought that relates to your CAT but i wouldnt want to say for sure as i may be wrong

Eggy/Sulphury smells all point to that! Could be blocked?

Sorry i cant help more

Thanks guys, I did wonder if it was my cat but the car seems to be performing OK since I fixed the other faulty parts.
Could be the pads I guess, the black diamond discs and pads have been on there just over 2 years now.
As I said, it isn't a strong egg smell, but sort of sulphur/carbon like just like a steam train lol

Sound like too many beans.

Usually its the cat that gives off that kinda smell. new cars do it quite alot as they wear in. its not uncommon for anyy car of any age to do it. it all depends on how the car is running which can come from fuel (bad mix from the petrol station) if your spark plugs ignite properly to weather, hot or cold will make the car run different. I have had it on a few cars and usually nothing to worry about, but dont take my word for it, im new to the cupra high tech electrikery thing.

Hey mate, i' had this problem, I had left the breather pipe off the air box and it was venting into the engine bay.

Thanks guys. Think I've decided it's the cat.
The car was running lean before with the bad MAF and coolant temp sensor. Surely if it was running rich VAG-COM will tell me. I'm sure it's just the cat doing it's job now it's running properly again.
