Mtec brakes advice

Hey, I'm thinking of upgrading my discs and pads soon, I've found mtec brakes and I wondered if anybody here has fitted them to their car. Also what size are the standard cupra brakes in thickness and diameter as there are 2 different sizes on the website.

Fronts are 340mm on a non Brembo Cupra. Sorry not sure what rears are.

Yeah I've heard the same, my friend has them on his Lexus and he says they're good.
There is only one size of rears discs on their website so I'm guessing that's the correct size. I'll probably check my current ones before changing them though

Their website could do with some work considering the only rear disc is bigger than the 2nd front one haha

But then BCS’s website could do with some work and they make the best exhausts so means nothing.

Obviously depending on what you plan doing for normal road use a disc is just a metal rotor. You probably won’t ever generate enough heat to need all the grooves and dimples etc... but they look good.

Track use and lunatic road use is another story

I was thinking of tracking in the summer at least once, just to see what the car was capable of.
Hopefully I'll have a few more mods by then as well

Personally I’d avoid the drilled then.

As far as I know the mtec’s start life as a solid disc and the holes are added which will make them susceptible to cracking when they get very hot.

Yes, I heard this as well I was personally just going to go for the grooved discs. I drove the sub8 pack and felt that its brakes were quite sharp and they're grilled and grooved.

I would suspect that they are cast with the holes so the integrity and strength of the disc is maintained.

It’s a better process but also more expensive, I think the price of the Cupra Brembo’s and pads from a main dealer is about £850... I’d hate to think what a new set on an M4 or the like would cost!

I fitted a set of mtec drilled discs to a corrolla t sport a few years back. Within 6 months they were heavily lipped. A friend of mine fitted a set to an Astra vxr and within a few months they had warped without having been pushed that hard.. Mtec buy very cheap discs and then drill or groove them themselves. They are not the quality of other aftermarket brands such as brembo etc. You get what you pay for I am afraid.

There is a large thread about mtec discs on a UK Subaru forum where a number of owners had a lot of issues with these discs.

All above was a few years ago now so don't know if the quality has improved over time but I wouldn't buy again.

I've heard good things on this forum about the Vagbremtechnic J hook discs. Bit pricier than the mtec but the J hook design is the standard disc design for the BTCC so if its good enough for factory race teams its not a bad design. I plan on upgrading to these in the summer once my OEM current pads and discs are done

Probably going to go with EBC Redstuff pads. They're rated for fast street use but they claim to be almost brake dust free which is a big draw for me.
