MOT History of your Ibiza - Any surprises!?

Now that the government have launched an official website, you can check the MOT history of your car. Anyone found any nasty surprises? Nothing too nasty on mine, although I have found out that someone must have tampered with the headlights at some point, they failed an MOT for aiming too low!

Mine looks to have had a dodgy MOT done last year by the previous owner, two things it failed on I've since replaced.

Probably should have gone through the documents more carefully when I first got it.

Nothing too crazy, although shows some MOT places are a lot more anal about stuff than others.

my advice, is go to test only places. IE no repairs.
Many garages see MOTs as a way into getting work, - you would be surprised how many things are generally seen as MOT failures, especially with the new rules, where is act fact they should be recorded as advisory only.
Along with the new rules garages are supposed to adopt a more advisory culture rather than saying things pass or fail, or fail things because they will need doing soon.

PS MOT history has been available for some time online? or is it the detail that been added?

No now you can pull the full history on just the numberplate, previously you needed the V5 number or MOT number as well.

Makes it easy when you're trawling around looking at cars, have a poke through the MOT history to check it's not a rotter before going any further.

Saves dealing with sellers who may/may not get back to you with details.

I completely agree, it'll probably be the main reason why people are using the site. I only bought my Ibiza 2 months ago; I wish the website had been available then!

Have you checked that site recently, I did and it was back to just dates and mileage - I was a bit disappointed as I was checking up on wife's old Polo, just to see what it needed to get its next MOT?

Sounds like maybe front end damage - accident repair?

Headlights too low is actually a colon failure as the standard put lights not far off causing glare and with bumpy roads people often think they are set to high so lower them a bit.

Headlights being to low is a very common failure across all vehicles typically they will be adjusted by the MOT tester free of charge while he is testing the vehicle the failure sheet is just following protocol chances are the Customer wont even be informed until collecting the vehicle.

Nope I don't think so - I'm assuming someone has done a DIY job of trying to lower them and went just a bit too far

I checked my brothers old car, I'm sure it had loads more failures on it then is listed.

I have a mate who is an MOT tester. Even between him and the other tester who he worked with, one would advise some things while the other would either pass or fail. A lot of the 'definitions' are open to some interpretation. Many things aren't black or white.
If you feel you have received a failure when you feel it shouldn't, you can contact VOSA and ask for a second opinion.
If the tester is found to be at fault, they can be given points. Just like with your driving licence, if you get too many points, you lose your licence. With an MOT tester, he loses his licence to test which often means he loses his job too, so 99% of them take their job seriously.

I see that that site is back showing the details again, which was missing when I first looked, though in fact that Polo did get a "clear/clean" MOT - either "hooky" or someone did a bit of work on it - which is possible as rear box was "gone" for sure this time.

Would imagine so if the tyres looked brand new.

It does look the the lower arm bushes are shot though, they will be next years fail item if they don't go beforehand.
If you start hearing a knocking noise going over bumps and stuff thats a sign the bushes have failed.

If the new tyres are a "quality" product, I'd doubt it from a Network Q outlet, then maybe get these bushes sorted as they will allow some incorrect wheel alignment and so uneven wear.
