just check your bulbs, washer bottle & jets, check wiper blades for tears, tyres for obvious faults inc spare if in, seat belts retract.
pot luck as to whether or not top mounts pass, some do some don't, even when passed most people get an advisory

can car fail on tracking been a bit out ??

they have no way of testing it, unless theres play in the track rod ends or steering rack. also unless the colour of the bulbs make it seriously distorted they cant fail it. you can always contest theyre opinion and they usually just advise it instead. a hole in a cv boot can be repaired by silicon if small. i know all the little tricks since ive been doing mots and repairs for 3 years :D mine had no advisories last MOT ;)

also, covering up rust with body filler, paper mache or anything similar wont work, they use a little hammer to test it. best to just get in welded up. but the saying is still true - they cant test what they cant see....hence side skirts on all cupras to cover rust :)
