Mods for my Cupra 290

Hi,

What's the overall cost of this, with the discount you mention, fitting, etc?

And to a cynic (me), what's the difference with your part vs me getting the exhaust place round the corner to cut out the resonater and put in a piece of steel? (not a criticism, just a genuine question).

Lastly, the ST (like mine) exhausts are I believe quieter as standard than the others (extra resonaters?). Everyone says the res delete is good, but is it as good on an ST? Have you got any videos of an ST with it?

I don't know for sure but I do not expect any of the normal after market splitters (Front, Side, Rear or Roof Lip) to make any noticeable difference to the cars handling.

Oh they look nice but if no difference seems pointless to get,
I just read somewhere that help with aerodynamics and keeps the car low to the ground and better handling but if the boss doesn't think good they I won't get one lol

i have them simply because they make the car look better, others may have proof they make a handling difference but as always if you are talking about normal road use vs track work then I am not convinced they will give you any real benefit.

Have a res delete, full intake - R600 open filter, intake hose, turbo elbow and muffler delete and it sounds the part, looks the part and gives the throttle a slightly more sensitive feel. - next on the list is handling mods; springs, dogbone inserts and tyres. Can’t go wrong with any of these mods and gets it ready nicely for any remaps in the future - not needed for stage 1 but why wouldn’t you improve your intake and handling if you want to make the most of the extra Performance.

Looks wise going to be getting the diffuser/ splitter, other than that not much needed - might get windows tinted. If you have any dealer stickers get them off right away and replace those dealer advert number plates with some 3/4D ones all is a matter of opinion - that’s what I have done/ will be doing to mine.

None of the aftermarket diffusers I’ve seen, or genuine ones will make any difference to handling. The Cupra R rear spoiler may compared to the normal spoiler due to its cut out away from the roof. The Cupra R splitter also may help a little bit, but I doubt by any real noticeable differences, just on the edge.

To get a big improvement that you’d notice:

You’d want a smooth under-tray from the front to the back. This could then link into a front splitter and a proper diffuser. A proper diffuser should start at least from the rear axle on these cars, not just be a trim for the lower part of the bumper.

Think something like this...

You can see how it starts much further forward and the space from what would be the ground gets larger. This makes the air less dense, sucking the car down at the rear.

Rear Spoiler wise you’d need a proper decent rear wing. There is a guy on Facebook who has one but now I’m looking for it I can’t find a picture. It was at Trax the other day. I think @Syphon snapped a few pics of it.

No doubt helps a lot but it’s not my cup of tea. (Anyone who says a rear wing on a front wheel drive car is useless does not know ****)

Sorry for the mini photos but if I was going for a wing that created downforce, I’d compromise from a full on racing car one to something a little more road car sized like this...

You can spend a lot of money on the car as there are many many different bits of kit that make the car look different. go and stop faster and handle better.

I personally would also talk with your tuners about Spark Plugs, Coil Packs and Oil to see what the recommend.

You also need to decide if this car is staying with you for a while or just 3 - 5 years in which case you don't want to spend a ton of money on it as you wont get it back, and make sure you talk to your insurance company about the mods to make sure the upgrades are not going to hurt your premiums to much.

The only other change I would always suggest it a top mount brace, it is not a visible mod but does help the car handle better and you can get a decent one for under a 100-00

You could also come to our next car meet on the 1st in Doncaster and see some nice stock and modified cars to help you out.

You should declare all mods to your insurer, including stickers in theory.

When I updated my insurance with the Stage 1 remap, springs etc the admin fee of £24 cost more than the change to my actual premium (£23.98) LOL

My insurance without mods was £525 or there abouts. My renewal with mods is £550. I’m old with no points etc. However my wife had a none fault claim 18 months ago, and if a previous insurer is to be believed I live in a high risk area for accidents and theft. So take what you will of my quote.

When I’d booked in to change my exhaust completely on my 280 and rang to declare it to the insurer at the time, they wouldn’t insure me after it was done, so had to arrange new insurance through Adrian flux. My 280 with mods declared for close to £800.

I have a strong suspicion that one of the reasons my Carbon’s insurance is less than the older 280 (even when standard it was £650), is because Front Assist became standard spec for the facelift 300’s. My 280 had it as it happened lol

as @DamoH said any change to the car has to be declared, I actually told them i had pin stripes on the car as I don't want any reason for them not to pay out.

Depends on the insurer. So long as they at least put down it’s a none standard exhaust you’ll be fine.
