Modifying Bumper

Probably been covered before in another thread, but thought I'd ask again.

When removing the "middle bar" from the front of the bumper, like IbizaAlex here

Is it a DIY job with a saw (or whatever tool lol), or a bodyshop job?

I was thinking DIY, but then wouldn't there be a bit of spraying required?

If it is a bodyshop job, what's the cost?

Did mine diy. The bar was cut out then used to make the sides. Then just filler to smooth it all nice. I did get someone to paint it though.

Yeah but are you doing a forge/pro alloy or a Ths/Uni Cooler?

As when i did mine i scribed the bumper around the cooler pipes

if i decide to do it, i may cut it myself then, then take it to bodyshop to finish off

When you cut the bar off it leaves gaps in the sides where it was. You can use the plastic from the bar to fill the gaps in. I used very strong epoxy that can be filed easily.

Yours looks sweet. Don't think I've seen a silver one with it cut out. Will have to do a photoshop at some point

I had all mine cut and smoothed only problem is the guy filled where bump strip was not plastic welded as i asked so bit of a crack on the side

you smoothed the rear? any pics if you have?

I was gonna smooth the numberplate on the rear aswell, then thought about where will number plate bulbs go lol

edit: who was the guy with the fully smoothed Onvi mk3? can't find it, and thought I had it bookmarked

how do you get your front bumper off???

he should only be missing the 2 screws that would have been behind the rub strip.

so should still be held on with 8 in the arches, and the few in the engine bay

Here's a pic of mine from 2007.... Most of it was plastic welded.....Back to a standard bumper know as I go bored with the look very quickly but looks good when done...

no get that middle bit gone get 100% best air flow you can and it makes it look mean
