Modified the standard air intake :)

Got bored today so whilst in b&q picked up some ventilation ducting and some tie wraps.

Standard.....

And then removed the air intake and repaired the split pipe with some tape.....

Attached the ducting to one end.....

And then fed the other end to the grill and held it in place with tie wraps

Teddy.. you would have been better off going into the proper Plumbing dept while in B&Q and getting that pipe in the metal variety.. its more resilient to small stones etc, will last a hellova lot longer, too
I had that kinda thing running the cold air to my old K&N on my old 1.4 before I got the Cupra
;)

what about changing the panel filter to a performance one?!
K&N or similar?]

I have looked into it but there about £40 inc delivery + £10 for the cleaning stuff and a standard one is £5.40. Not really going to get much performance gain and I just replace my filter every year and its hardly that dirty.

Even with the amount of money I waste on my car I cant justify that one

I did see the metal one brum, but thought it might be just as strong as the white one as it looked a bit foily(spl) and cost a couple of quid more. If this one does end up like swiss cheese I might upgrade later on :)

Stig I think you can get it from a motor factors but not sure what its called?

Ive been thinking of doing this but now I am definetely going to do it. I did the same with that hose, I taped mine up aswell, need to replace it.

First question, how does the air intake bit come out of the other bit?? (Picture 2).
Second question, on picture 3 is that alittle bracket type thing around the bit of pipe that is taped up?

no offence guys but why? its not going to give any gains and i think it looks abit cheap and pants. if your after intake the noise which is about all you can achieve on those engines induction wise, then like the pic above a cone filter is best bet.

My bonnet is never up ;) unless it's being serviced or fixed. Just an idea to get more air into the engine as the pipe was pretty crap.

Cruiser87, I tried to take it apart but it wouldn't come so I just used my dremel on it :)

I just drill a couple of holes into the plastic filter housing
it's way cheaper
