Hi there, done a search on the forum,

What's happened is yesterday me and my "sparky" friend tried to fit an aftermarket Pioneer stereo into the cupra, And suprisingly it doesnt work! So we simply tried it in his car and it does work! so we got out the mutilmeter and did a bit of raking and he came to the conclusion that the stereo itsnt getting a switched live, (to turn the stereo on and off) so for now the std Lana stereo is in it works fine but i have to switch it on and off manually! [:@] Also having a problem with the auto door lock, ie its doesnt unlock when removing the key. Saw a post of using wd40 Any tried this?

Any 1 else had this or a similar problem? Any help of advice would be greatly appriciated! Thought i would post something on here, before i admit defeat and take to halfords!!!

Thanks in advance!! Andy

I reckon your sparky friend shorted the wiring and blew a fuse mate

the thing is the fuse box lid has a sticker showing the fuse locations but it's a bit tricky to understand, you need to turn it on it's side for the locations to make sense

also keep in mind some head units will need the switched live and permenent live (red and yellow wires) to be swapped around so as to keep the radio memory and cd stop/start posision

good luck

Oh BTW the auto unlock thing isn't always enabled but can be enabled with vag-com or a friendly dealer

Thanks for the comment, much appreciated!

Well he thought he had blown a fuse so he took the multi meter across all the fusses, and they were all fine. With regards to the unlocking of the doors, when I got the car that feature did work. And just all of a sudden has stopped along with the radio not turning on and off (std radio). Speaking to a mechanic last night, he reckons that the switch inside my ignition barrel might be stuck in. Tricking the car into thinking that the key is always in, this would stop the doors from unlocking and shutting the radio off.

Does this make any sense? Lol Has anyone else had this happen?

Getting the car VAG-Com this week so that should show up any faults. Might have to be a trip back to seat and flash the warranty!

All I want is my I pod in my car, :(

Its caused by you having the two wires mentioned above the wrong way around - swap them and your auto unlock will work again. No idea why but the same happened to me and as well as losing the settings on the stereo it seems to stop te door locking thing working properly.

I have a Sony headunit and in the instructions there are 4 - 5 different wiring varients. One of them warns that on some cars the two leads need swapping, live and switched live, otherwise the thing will lose its settings when you pull out the key. Initially when I fitted it I forgot, and found that it effected the locks, as though there was no enough power to drive them. They did work, but very veeerrrry slowly. I swapped the cables over, there was a connector midway down the wiring loom so I could do this, and afterwards it worked fine. Quick & easy fix.

The wires u swaped, was that on the std seat loom or on the aftermarket kit? Did u need to buy a special loom from an audio center? Sorry for all the qeustions just want to cover all bases before i strip the old stereo out again lol

There was 2 wire that i swapped that seemed to tweek about with the central locking. i decided to leave (bit scared tbh lol) was i on to something there? thanks in advance

I've got exactly the same problem with my pioneer head unit and wiring. I just wired up to turn it off by hand and go without the auto unlocking. Any help would be appreciated also.

Glad someone else is experiencing these problems! (not glad your having trouble of course, just happy its not just me lol )

You reckon it could just be something to do with pioneer stereos? What stereo u got in? mine is just a simple mp3 ipod compatible headunit! Nothing fancy.

How did u wire urs up? It’s a switch live we are missing, but I think I have found one! Electric mirrors are on a switch live (works when the ignition is on but doesn’t when its off) Cigarette lighter would have been a good one but it’s a constant live so that’s no use!

Anyone else had any problems or can offer advice to us?

Download the manual for my car stereo here. Its the install manual and contains the wiring diagram. Look about a fifth the way down at the right side and hopefully it should help.

To answer your question, the loom coming out the sony goes straight into the cars socket (on the car's loom) but the sony loom has connectors halfway down alloying you to swap over the cables. Cross them over, so live becomes switched live and switched live becomes live. You should already have these on YOUR stereo's wiring loom, no need to go hunting for them. You might not have the connectors to make the swap easy tho. On the Sony, if you look at the diagram, the cables are yellow and red.

Good Luck

it would appear page 5 of this pioneer manual tells you which cables to swap. I'm assuming you have the installation manual for your pioneer which should be similar? Any use?:)

ye i would have thought that you could do the same to your head unit as i have with my amp.
i just got the cable from my amp that needs to go to a switched live but instead of a switched live i tapped into a constant live but fixed the little switch in.

i installed my Pioneer hu about 2.5 months ago and had no problems...don't understand some of the problems you guys are getting

it's as simple as connecting the red to yellow bullet-connections and vice-versa...then your hu should keep it's settings

sorry only just replied having internet problems. After the first time i put the head unit in, i found i couldnt find a switched live on the car side at all, its completely gone, just a dead wire now. checked all fuses and everything is fine. so have got the head unit constant live and switched live running from the constant live of the car, and have no auto unlock. really need to sort it but it's one of those things i've now learnt to live with.
