mk4 cupra tdi, excessively bumpy ?

hi, had mine for a month or so, but im finding it quite bumpy ?, are they all the same, its a fairly stiff ride, and i know the low profile tires dont help and springs etc, but should they be that bumpy, also when you hit bumpy ground you get clonking from all over the car, reminds me of an old escort rs custom i had, and that was old very old
do they settle more as mines onk got about 1.5 k on it

i've not got the same ibiza as you (1.4 sport with 16in alloys + low profiles) and i find it quite bumpy and very crashy on potholes/manhole covers)

I have 1300 miles on mine and it hasn't eased up.

The ibiza i test drove (1.4 16v reference with 12K on the clock) wasn't much different either :(

check that the transit blocks aren't in teh springs still

but it's *trademark* way of getting suspension to feel sportier (over sprung & under damped)

My 1.8T FR was very bad though a lot better than the 1.9tdi Sport I owned prior to it. My solution was to fit a Koni Sport kit which has improved both the ride and the handling, expensive but worth it.

thx folks, i did have the transit packing left in when i first got it, but they have since been removed, guess its just a feature

Would say that my PD160 is just the same, to the point where I avoid potholes and imperfections in the road like the plague. Do also get a bit of a clonking, is this possibly the engine mount (s) ? Its worst if you brake very hard over a bumpy surface.

Oh and for your guidance for the cupra they actually softened the springs and stiffened the dampers according to autocar's review.

glad im not the only one, but its a shame there so stiff as it spoils my enjoyment of the car, my old 182 had stiff springs but it was nothing comapred to my cupra

seems like a common thing for all cupras by the looks of it, and im glad that you asked the question 182blue cos the other day i was thinking about asking the same thing. what are the transit blocks? and did you feel any difference after removing them 182blue?

Doesn't sound too different to the TDI Sports, they are really crashy/bumpy too, causing you to avoid all potholes etc wherever possible.
From all accounts the solution is to fit a new suspension kit, just wish I had the cash...

hey, well checked my tyre pressures and they were low, so i pumped them up (ps whats the best psi for the cupra ?, manual says 32-34), now the car feels marginally better
mexucupra heres a pic of the transit blocks, they should be removed before delivery to the customer but my stupid dealer forgot, there just for the car to be transported, and yes there was a massive difference when they were taken out, before i knew they were there i thought the ride was horrendous and i was taking the car back for my money back, but now its alot better

I don't know, I haven't tried any...still on the crappy originals I've had for 64000 miles !

From what I've read, the KW coilovers seem to be the best but v expensive...there's also the Seat Sport kit which has good reviews. Now people are talking about the Koni kit.....the choice is yours !

ok ive had a look and all is clear although i have noticed a few other things that i dont like the look of.
i have one question though, muddyboots mentions the Seat sports kit, i have a 2005 ibiza cupra, probably a stupid question but would it not already have the sports springs/kit already on? or did Seat release the kit as another option/upgrade?

I'm considering getting Bilstein B6 Sport dampers and keeping the std springs on my FR. I have heard on here and a few VW sites that this combination improves the ride and stability alot and is not overly expensive as just the dampers are being changed.

seat sport kit is for the PD130 Ibiza's only...i.e. I don't think it would be that much of an improvement over the Cupra's standard fare, to be worth the money.

I had a PD130 with standard suspension...after a month it got the SeatSport kit. This was very good, suited uk's **** roads pretty well. Tis a Sachs/eibach kit, and is very well suited to the car.

In the end though I upgraded again to KW v2 coilovers which were ace...round corners car would stay flat. For lots of town driving and the like though, SeatSport kit was a nicer comprimise, even than the KW kit on softish settings.

but narrow, short wheelbase cars are never going to be both comfortable and 'good handling'..unless they're made lotus..who are gods.
