MK2 ignition issue!!!!

Hi all,

My first time post on here and I have to say I am getting desperate for help now.
I bought my MK2 2 months ago second hand, it has been spot on for those 2 months until a week ago when i had to be towed back to a garage due to the car not starting. When I turn the key in the ignition everything comes on and works except the lights on the dash board and when you try to start the car you can hear the click from the relays but nothing else.
The garage have had the car for a week now and they thought it was the cluster which they sent away to be tested and it has cleared all tests. Once the cluster is back on monday somebody else has suggested the chip in the fob so i have given the garage my second key and have my fingers crossed.
Any other ideas from you guys would be greatly received as I don`t want the costs to start spiralling either.

Thanks.....

I forgot to say it is a 2.0L TDI FR

Hi Marty, thanks for your reply, would that show up as a fault because the garage are saying there are no faults showing so they are saying its a wiring fault. Something that they did say when they first had it was that if they leave the ignition on for 5-10 minutes the dash will come on and they can start the car :( I just wan my car back on the road.... I am having to drive a micra at the moment..... And I am 6 foot 8 :)

I can deal with it being a wiring issue but just can't let it get to expensive..... Can't afford it at mo!!!!

Right just had an update from garage, apparently the vag com comes up with no faults. The car will now start nearly evertime but then will stop you have to wait anywhere from 5 seconds to 30 seconds with ignition on and then the lights will ping back on and you can start the car... but the garage cannot find out why hellllllppppp please!!!!!!! :)
