Right then - quick report on Aintree at the weekend. Good weather was forecast and the weather did not disappoint - it turned out to be a glorious day after a slightly overcast start. Slightly down on entrant numbers compared to normal but still a healthy entry with 9 entered in class 3B.
Usual suspects were there - John Moxham with his LAD-prepared 205, Andy Larton from LAD in his yellow 106, and Mark Teale with his 206 with touring car engine and newly fitted longer sprint gearing.
Gonna be a good one.
Not many changes for us since last time apart from new tyres as outlined above.
All times can be seen here:
http://www.liverpoolmotorclub.com/2012/09/02/the-aintree-autumn-sprint-results-3/
Times are 64ft, new pre-beechers bend split time, final
PB=51.03
April sprint=51.65
June sprint=51.90
P1 - 2.66, ?, 56.92, taking it steady taking the shine off new tyres, rotated them front to back before P2
P2 - 2.76, ?, 52.48, seems fine
T1 - 2.80, ?, 51.66, too much wheelspin on start but heading in right direction, grip felt nice
T2 - 2.59, ?, 51.24, getting launch revs right now, feeling good, faster than last two outings at Aintree
LUNCH - swapped tyres front to back to even up bedding in process, up a few clicks on dampers
T3 - 2.53, 33.70, 51.09, easily best start ever at Aintree and 6 hundreths from PB
T4 - 2.57, 33.80, 51.11, not as good on bend 2 - could have gone under 51 secs!!!!! next time
So how did the others do?
Top spot went to Mark in his 206 - new longer sprint gearing made a huge difference to his car and he came away with a best run of 2.58, 33.20, 50.23.
We were second.
Third went to Andy Larton in his 106 with 2.52, 33.90, 51.77.
So a good day was had - Mark usually does hillclimbs with his 206 so has it geared for about 115mph making it not so suitable for longer tracks like Aintree, but with his new 140mph gearing it has made the car very fast indeed - as you would expect for a correctly geared hatch with 288hp! Well done to him.
Need to work out how to go faster now though!
Club GTI sprint at Curborough next weekend and then stripdown time for winter rebuild and mods....yeh!
A few rounds still to go in the Champonship but I think we are lying third overall presently - although this could change yet - so fingers crossed.
Ave it
