Any info would be very much appreciated ?

yep i believe it was standard if you have the electirc adjustment you should have heated as well.

One of mine stopped working just replaced the glass from the mk4 golf to get the blue tint. so if its adjustable it could just be its stopped working and you need new glass as element is on the back of the glass

If you have vag-com it will be shown as a fault code.

I have heated mirrors on my SE. My mirrors also fold electrically - not sure if you got both together or not. Mine's on a 51 plate, I think it was standard on early models and then became an option at some unknown point in time!

Mine are...

If you remove the mirror glass.. you can check the heating circuit behind it...

I once removed mine by turning the mirror glass and then firmly applied some pressure and slowly unhooked it ... hard to explain...

i think, well pretty sure, that both of mine (electrially folding) are knackered as only a tiny patch in the centre of the mirrors de-mist, although this is probably due to the wind rather than the elements..

is there a surefire way of taking them off without damaging anything?

cheers

help

Asked a question in the TDI section the other day and someone came back with this very helpful link below:

http://www.bitnet.ro/vw/prdecoder/

Make a note of all the option codes for your car on the sticker in the boot or in your service and it will tell you what each code means.

Hope this will help you out a little to see what you have and don't have.

Cheers

I would'nt recomend pulling the glass of there are little clips holding on to the main part and if you damage them you will not be able to fix the mirror on.
Like Rob said you need to remove the casing there are some screws under the mirror undo these and the casing will come off, you will need to jiggle it about a bit but it will seperate, the black bit is seperate to the colour coded bit.

One screw and a tab that has to be pushed in, if I remember correctly? There's a hole in the coloured mirror pod that you poke a long narrow screwdriver into to get to this tab.
