mk 2 alarm

does anyone know what alarm/immobiliser was factory fitted to the mk 2 gti cupra 16v as i have changed insurance companies and i need to tell them what is fitted

it's factory fitted, but is not Cat 2 approved.

Even thought it's the same immobiliser that's fitted to the Mk3 Ibiza, which is approved, Seat never got round to getting the Mk2 one approved.

I'm in the same position mate, just bought a Mk2 2.0 8v, which the insurance have said I need a Cat1/2 to cover it against theft.

which is dumb, as it takes virtually no effort to bypass a cat2

but they will want one.

no insurance company has ever bothered before but now i have changed they want me to write to them and tell them what it is called. as i have no evidence of this being fitted it would be helpful to have any info such as name or a part number

I am in the same situation as you. I e-mailed SEAT Uk asking for confirmation of my immobiliser model etc and they phoned back saying it's fitted with an alarm but not an immobiliser!

My car is a '96 1.8 Gti so could be a different factory fitting from yours tho - SEAT Uk asked for chassis no etc.

I'm going to go ahead and get an aftermarket CAT2 touch point immobiliser fitted anyway - it's only £119 fitted and I would get stung for 2 months premium (~£60) if I cancelled my insurance and moved it to someone who didn't need am immobiliser.

Out of interest which insurance co. asked you for evidence? I'm with privelege - very very cheap quote initially!

it was lloyds tsb used to be with elephant who were very good but just couldn't compete with the price

I spoke with SEAT and they wrote me a letter stating what the car had fitted from factory. This has been sufficient (for Egg, underwritten by Direct Line).

that's interesting Ed, can you remember who you spoke to ? Customer services ?!?

I think it was customer services. There is a typo on their letter but I couldn't be bothered to get them to resend it.

Go into a local SEAT dealer and get them to stick it on letter headed paper as to what security it has as standard. Was good enough for my insurers
