Mixing Coolant

Hi All,

Hope everything is ok!

I had a new cambelt fitted in January along with water pump and new coolant. Just before summer I checked the coolant level it needed topping up. It was red/pink coolant not sure what make the garage put in all the invoice says is Red 5 year antifreeze. I bought some Red/Pink Triple QX ready mixed anti-freeze & summer coolant. I topped it up probably only about a couple of glug fulls to bring it to the max level. We are not talking litres.

Checking the oil/coolant yesterday I noticed the expansion tank looked dark on the surface. I took off expansion tank cap and noticed a brown coloured but clear liquid on the surface. I got hold of a syringe and placed this deep into the tank to take a sample it was clear pink coloured. I am not losing coolant, the oil has no milky gunk either on cap/dipstick, no white smoke. I was thinking oh no head gasket!.

Could it be that I have just mixed different makes of Red coolant (all be it both compatible with VW etc) and they have just not mixed?. I hope I have not caused any damage by doing this.

Thanks

Jason

I bought XSteam G40 which is pink/red. It's supposed to be G12++. Which according to the bottle can be mixed with anything Seat have ever used. Can you remove the floating liquid and see if it comes back in a few days / miles?
