Misting rear lights

Hi. I have a constant problem with an 03 ibiza. The rear divers side lamps keep misting up internally. They are a complex contruction. Does anyone know how to open them up without breaking anything so I can dry them out and then seal them?

I get the problem on mine, doesn't really bother me much but seeing as my car is booked in at the dealers next friday I will enquire about this "fix", might as well get it sorted if I can.

Thanks for replies. I had a look at the previous threads. lots of moans about the misting but not many solutions. I thought that a misted light was an MOT failure, thats why I am concerned. I have tried putting silica gel packs in the rear but theres no direct way to get into the space between the red plastic assembly and the clear cover. I will look at putting a vent hole in the red section to see if that will work. I think a hot soldering iron would be better than trying to drill flimsy plastic ,its bound to crack. I might also try to dry the units in an oven at low heat and then seal the edges with silicon rubber.
cheers anyway.

Yep I thought it was an MOT failure too hence the reason I kicked up such a fuss about my front lights being in a really bad way. Eventually I managed to get mine changed but the dealer said it's not an MOT failure  And there still not clear all the time but I big improvment. My rears seem to only mist when I clean it.

Best of luck with getting it sorted.

Have sorted problem. I used a soldering iron to make a small hole (6mm) through the rear black cver and then through the red inner linner, making sure to stop before hitting the clear cover. This was done at left bottom and right top of each light. within a few hours all misting had gone. Rained buckets last night and was cold this morning no mist or any moisture detected. Only worry is going to be spiders etc getting through the holes!

yeah i would drill a lil hole but i hate spiders wiggling there way into the light. had a little friend in the front light a while ago, still making a campsite of my front light. but after a bit banging on the light it soon left via the back. :D

lol...

collected my new mk4 tonight.... :D:D:funk:YES headlights have moisture inside!!:(

on first viewing i could see the inside of headlights looked dusty/dirty(due to past dried out water),
however tonight garage had obviously cleaned the inside, they were clear like brand new....
by time id drove her home moisture was building in along interior botton!??!

Wonder how he cleaned the inside!??lights were far more effective as a result!

headlight

i went to seat with mine at the weekend an dye it is a fault with the headlights.but say they have got to drive it so long with the headlights on and if that fails check the seals on it and then send a pic to seat for them to decide.but they will only hav a look if its got water in not just mist lol mad lol

I used to have this problem with my offside rear outer cluster, I took a silica gel bag from a shoe box and put it behind the bulb holder. Within hours, the mist was gone and its never returned.

There is a repair for the front headlamps, its on the ELSAWIN system if your dealer plays dumb!
