Misfires (coilpack on the way out?)

Hello,

I have some serious problem last few weeks and its actually getting worse.

It happens especially when engine is still cold. When i put my foot down it misfires (terrible loss of power - feels almost liek ESP kicks in with a big bang from exhaust). When i put gas pedal only half way down car actually acts normal. Even when warmed up car doesnt feel anymore the way its used to be, 3rd gear feels weak above 3k rpm. I was thinking that i should change my coilpacks and if its still not working properly i will worry then... My spark plugs are just about 3k miles old.

VAGcom shows misfires on cylinder 3 and then another fault code which im nto sure now but i think something about random misfires - intermittent.

How do you guys think? - Coilpacks ? When i change coilpack i should change all 4 of them right?

Is there anything else i should check?

Thanks,

Greg

No need to change all coilpacks, just try changing cy3 first and see if that helps. It's a cheap enough thing to do and even if it does not solve your problem, keep one in the car as you'll need it at some point!

I wil try to change jsut one coilpack on monday. Maybe a stupid question btu which one is cylinder 3 actually? How do i count them. Standing in front of the car facing engine will that be the 3rd one from the left ? :) or is it the other way round ...

good question... bump, I assume it is the 3rd from the left when looking from the front? I've never had to worry about it out before as I've only had coil packs completely fail.

Thats right it goes 1-4 looking from the front starting at the drivers side. I think you need a 5 mm allen key and a 10 mm spanner to get to 3 and 4

Coilpack changed and car is running fine. :)

I also bought new MAF to make sure all is fine.

I'm pretty sure one of my lambda sensors is broken as well... unfortunatelly it doesnt come up as a fualt code on VAGcom but one of the lambda sensor reading is showing me "0" all the time. Time to exchange it, right ?
