Mirrors don't go down whilst reversing?

This was something I didn't even realise was on the car...

The mirrors have never gone down whilst reversing, but when I was messing through the car settings the other day I noticed there was an option for it, and it was already checked...

So why don't they do it? Any ideas?

Turn your mirror adjustment selector to the left hand mirror, it will then re adjust on reverse. Remember to put the car in reverse and set the position up or it could point anywhere.

Much easier than being a typical ass hat and suggesting you RTFM

It will only adjust if you have set it first. As said, turn knob to l/h mirror. Engage reverse, then adjust mirror to desired setting. Mirror will return to normal (or should) when you have driven forward for a short distance. It will only work whilst knob is in the l/h position; helpfully you cannot have the heated mirrors and dipping at the same time, its one or the other. Technology.......

Meppershall Beds.
I can't count how many tips I've gleaned from the (majority) friendly and helpful owners.
Like the one who pointed out the f****** manual refers to the RIGHT HAND position as they translated the language, but not the actual operation, as the RHD car needs the LH mirror to dip.
There's a forum/thread for almost anything, but if you've got a Mk3, it's natural to go to the Mk3 forum, and pop up a simple question.
no need to bite someone's head off......keep this a nice place to come.

Agreed Andrew!

At the end of the day the forum is here for people to ask questions. I've often answered people's questions and also posted a pic of the manual to assist them. Not everyone has their manual to hand when they ask the question and as Andrew said its not even necessarily right (I remember searching for the alarm deactivation button as per manual to find the answer on the forum that it's not on the door pillar on UK cars)

As long as its not questions about mpg or emissions. They really get on my man turnips. For those sort of questions you need Whattreehugger.com. Or savethelentils.org. Either way, not here. Please.

I was actually thinking about the use of searches opposed to asking questions the other day.
I am also on MK5GolfGTI.co.uk (used to have a Pirelli Edition but loiter and try to help). The MK5 Golf is now a very mature car so most of the time the questions have been asked before. Sometimes a grumpy f&^% will crawl out from under a rock to have a snap at a newcomer, but most of the time people help.

My thoughts were; If everyone used the search function and no-one started new dialogue then the forum becomes an online database and less of a "community".

Keep asking simple questions! How else is anyone to know that if you move the wiper stalk all the way down as soon as you turn off the ignition the wipers move to a vertical position to help to change the blade?

I sure as hell didn't read that in the manual (no idea if it's there). "I am a man, I don't read manuals!" :p

Glad to see you got sorted, this one drove me mad for 2 days as well because the manual says it must be in the R setting. Must be a carry over from the LHD models. Its a great feature, stops me kerbing my lovely 18" wheels!

I have recently joined. I bought seat for my other half and asked a question the other day and got the read the manual reply. I've had bmw for years and been part of the bmw forums for years. Vauxhall before that. I can code and program bmw and vauxhall but know nothing about seat or the vag brand.
I never suggested to anyone to read the manual. I just offered quick replies.

Your not always I'm a position to have a manual to hand and they are not always that clear.

The only thing I know is there are the odd people on every forum that are sarcastic. WHY be here if you don't want to offer your expertise and share knowledge?

I like the seat and hope it will be a great car to own. Its a vw build quality car with a better set of clothes IMHO.

I think some people just do it to make their pathetic little ego feel better belittling people rather than helping, lets be honest this seems to be rife now the internet has given everyone an say.. Its a shame really.

The irony being they type more complaining about it that answering the question.

As for the manuals, they aint exactly clear on the best of times, eg a post I got involved in re launch control we discovered the manual was telling us there were options in the menu that simply don't exist on my cupra.
