this is probably a long shot

how can you make the diesel fr 170bhp PD sound sportier, i.e. more turbo whistle or more grunt without removing the dpf? and for not too much money

Get a milltek exhaust. Not that cheap though.

You'll never get it sounding like a petrol, there will always be the tell-tale "tractor" noise! :)
The only diesel engine I've heard which sounds pretty good is the vag 3.0 (eg, from the Audi A5).

Centre section is the box in the centre (hence the name), its between the backbox and dpf. Any custom exhaust place will be able to do it.

My dad had it done on his old 140, definetly hear the turbo whistle/whine and a nice grunt off it :)

A miltek is next on my list but need the duel exit for the Aero kit, Turbo Pacs in Durham are my local distributor so next time the missus wants a ride up to TK Maxx i will have a ride along to see what they can do for me:) - Think i will get little change from £500 notes:cry:

Remove the boxes from the zorst and replace with a straight pipe, they call it a "mufflerectomy" It sounds like this clicky and it is perfectly legal. I think it only costs about £100 to do. Here's another one too clicky

You know the second link you provided. My Leon makes this noise if i suddenly change gear when cold in and around 2k to 2.5k revs (when accelerating with intent but not flat out). Must admit, sounds awesome, however Im thinkin it could be something in need of attention

The noise is perfectly normal but a lot louder if you remove the silencer and have a straight pipe.

How do i explain to the garage i want a mufflerectomy? Does it affect the dpf? Can you hear the turbo morr? Can i keep the twin exhausts on the back because i really like them

....well the point of it would be that you DO lose the exhaust boxes - so surely the DPF would go too!
Don't forget if you went this route (and lost your DPF unit), you'd need the garage to reprogram your ECU to "cancel out" DPF sensor readings, or the car wont be going anyway far ! Only a few SELECT Tuners (on these forums) have successfully managed this.
