Hrm, problem is Lupos are a bit like eagle teeth and the Ibiza (ideally) does need to be sold privately. It's a lot of hassle and it's the wrong time of year.

Very much doubt PX would only be 8k, that'd be an easy 4k profit for the dealer. If the margins were that high and it was that easy I'd be interested in changing the day job!

What've they done to the grill; why not leave it black!? Looks tidy, but with that grill I'd be slightly worried that it's been abused a fair bit  Is that making assumptions  ?

Does look quite tidy on the pictures though. Don't really like the colour though :help:

I suppose one option is to sell private, sit on the cash (without car) and get a Loop in the future?

I meant abused in the too much sense :)

Ironically in the biggest city in the land, there seems to be one

You could take a look at the one near Newport! Looks OK. Mileage is a little high but they all seem to be high. Plus it actually looks like it's at a garage, not sitting with a man and his shed. Will call them tomorrow, try and get the scoop.

Is it polite to say something along the lines of: "Here mate, this Lupo. Is it a dog or what? I don't really fancy driving a 260 mile round trip to inspect seven thousand pounds worth of sh**e."

I think credit cards should be rebranded as debt cards, then people would be less keen to use them.
100% agree, I admire your attitude towards debt.

With regards to the Lupo - only question is, could you live with the much smaller car ?

I had one or two Arosas as courtesy cars, and they are tiny - the boot is non-existent and the "parcel" shelf wasn't even big enough to hold a postcard !

If you're going to be doing quite a few trips to B&Q etc you might want something with a useable boot...we're building a house and I went from an Ibiza to a Passat Estate for this reason :)

By the way, been looking at a few used Cupra TDI prices and I don't think 11k is far off the mark, plenty of 2004 models going for over 10k at dealers still and yours is an 06...

We used to have an Arosa Sport. The size was never really a problem as there's only two of us. OK, you had to get creative when stacking stuff up but the B&Q / Ikea etc. point is definitely accepted. The seats fold more of less flat, so providing there's no passenger it can be reasonably roomy... Buy yes, something to think about.

Glad someone else shares my optimism / delusions about the value of the Cupra!

At the moment we're thinking if we can get more-or-less £5k out of the transaction, and run the Lupo into the ground, then financially it's not too nuts. Obviously the Lupo will have some costs (brakes, tyres and cambelt if it's nearish 60k) but they seem to be pretty reliable from reading on ClubLupo.

Decisions, decisions...

Regarding the debt thing, I just hate the idea of paying for money and credit cards are evil; at 15 - 20% per year it's just insane. Store cards are even worse! 0% credit card for x months however, is free money so long as you pay it off :D

I've spoken to a few garages with GTIs for sale. No one is interested in selling a car, taking on a more expensive one and giving me a cheque at this time of year. Fair enough.

Looks like the Ibiza is here to stay and we'll just have to save. Unless anyone on here who is interested in my car...? :)
