With the impending doom and gloom of rising petrol costs and shortages of fuel I am looking seriously into converting my car to LPG. Anyone else done this as yet?

Also does anyone know if the SEAT 1.4 100bhp engine has a plastic or metal inlet manifold because I am told it costs a fair bit more to safely install LPG conversion onto a plastic inlet manifold fitted car?

If there is a genuine shortage of oil, hence petrol then there will be a shortage of LPG aswell.

Break even point for LPG is higher than most people think, for average mileage probably something like 4-5 years.

How can a 1.4 Ibiza be that bad in fuel? You must get mid 30's atleast.

Unless you are doing 20k+ miles a year i wouldn't bother.

even with a shortage of oil there will be enough LPG being that it is a waste product from refining oil and is only used for cars or burned of at the refinery. Over here there are several manufacturers who do conversions. Company's like Vialle.

Im not looking into because of a shortage of oil specifically. The potentially savings (even if my car has 1/2 decent mpg). The way petrol prices are on the increase LPG is not to be smirked at (until the government wack aload of tax on it!)

The trouble like you said as soon as everyone starts to use LPG the government will tax the hell out of it just look at how cheap diesel was five or ten years ago and how we where all told to use diesel cars now its more then petrol !!! :-o

I know this is a 5year old thread, but it is on topic of course.

I'm thinking of converting to LPG.
5years on and the cost of LPG is pretty much half of petrol/diesel.

So anyone else thinking of doing this, any bad issues I should be looking for specific to a Mk4 1.4 (petrol if that makes a differnce.)
