hi im josh im new to the site. i have recenty bought a seat leon (loving it :D), but now it has developed a flat spot/loss of power when running at low revs and it idles low and is consitantly moving between 800-1500rpm.
after looking through the forum the problems I have come up with could be coil pack or maf sensor. Judging from the symptoms i have given would anyone point me in the right direction of which to change 1st?
thanks and I get some pics of my car up asap!

Hey mate!!

Same engine as me, and spookily i had mine sorted today (i think), full throttle body clean and accelerator cable tightened! Idles a little high but was told to let it settle for a couple of days.

Cost me £40 (so an hours labour + VAT)

Bit of an update really, idling is *nearly* sorted, garage has identified a flat spot and its also a little bit hesitant dropping from 1k revs to idle value of the 900 mark.

Going to try a new MAF tomorrow, and will also order a temp sender.

Any ideas on costings for MAF anyone?

Does the 1.6 have a MAF? I had the MAP sensor changed on mine recently for what was possibly a similar problem, slight hunting at idle and not starting from cold.

As for the high idle after a throttle body clean, mine was high for 5 minutes leaving VW Lincoln, soon returned to normal after a pop from the engine and every fault light at once!

On another note, Jimski your motor looks sweet. I've got the starfish alloys but want to lower it next. Have you had yours done? Any pics showing it from the side? Sorry for the threadjack

Some 1.6 engines have a MAF sensors, engines with the Simos injection system, coded AEH, AKL certainly do. These engines have the air filter in a large box on the right (nearside) of the engine compartment and the MAF at the outlet of this airbox.

Engines with 4LV and 4MV injection don't. They seem to be characterised by the air filter being mounted over the engine and/or intake manifold. Relevant codes are AUS, AZD, BCB
