Evening folks,

I'm sure this will have come up on here before but I've stupidly lost one of the key-fobs for my 2017 Leon ST. I've done various research online but can only seem to find a load of conflicting info online on approx how much a replacement costs. Is this something i can get done without going to the dealer? And if so, can anyone give me a ballpark figure and ideally recommend somewhere in the Leeds/ West Yorkshire area?

I'm driving down to the south of France next week and really apprehensive about the idea of a lengthy roadtrip like this without any spare keys in case anything happens.

Thanks in advance,
Sam.

Just chiming in as I'd like to hear this myself. Not lost a key, but as far as I am aware, there is no cheap way to get a key. I hope I'm wrong and if so I'd like to hear about it.

Back in August 2017 when I got my car it only came with only one fob.

The car dealer paid for a new fob, which I believe was about £249. But I did have to goto a dealer to get it coded to car. This cost £51.30....

The wife's kia was only £180 for the new fob and £60 for coding...

OP, with your "long trip" time line, I'd think that you have few real options, but I'd be finding out just how quickly SEAT could get you a new fog with the correct lock key part cut from factory.

Edit:- I've heard that 5 days is a realist order time for a cut key - and then it would need booked in to code the immob to the car - rotten situation to get into.

Edit:- will household insurance or AA etc breakdown cover providers not give you rapid key replacement? Both of mine do though I've yet to test the speed of their service.

Keys are special order from factory so do take 5-7 days. However if you have lost it, if someone finds it they cab technically open yout car with the key blade.

So cheap option is buy new fob and key blade and recode new and existing key.....

Or

New lockset new keys more costly but if your car was stolen and they found out you just recoded fobs and not changed locks they may not pay out..... But not sure if they can or would find out...

Ive accepted it's gone. Ive retraced my steps everywhere I've been in the last week and it's not turned up unfortunately. Luckily I've got key cover with my insurance, although a replacement can take "up to 14 working days". I've called the auto locksmith that was recommended above out of interest for a quote from him and he is going to get one for me. Otherwise looks like I'm heading away with just the one key which is going to be permanently attached to me! I know there is a risk someone could find and unlock my car but the 3 areas I have potentially lost the keys are all pretty far apart so I think it would be very unlikely that would happen. Plus I am also moving to a completely different area soon anyway so I'm willing to take the risk of not having all the locks replaced as that sounds like a very pricey route to go down!

The "up to 14 working days" is from the dealership, JCT 600 Séat in Bradford.

Do they still do manual spare keys? I got one for mk2 Leon and it took a couple of days, I worked in Kia parts, fob either in stock or next day and key blade usually 3 working days, £30 to recode all keys, it takes minutes. Try another dealer?
Never heard of insurance companies insisting on lock replacement, they would always go for the cheaper fix?

I didn't ask about manual keys. In the end I decided to go through my key insurance as they offered to pay the full amount for a new key from JCT SEAT in Bradford (a rather eye watering £290). Apparently the key has to be oee ordered from Spain but I popped into the dealership and the insurance company (esure) paid for it over the phone for me. They're pretty firm on the 14 working days but I'm getting a free replacement with no excess or no claims loss so I can't grumble too much.
