loose sterring and breaks at 5000 revs

only seems to happen when i really boot the car, mk1 leon cupra t. when i get it up to 5000 revs (only seems to happen in 2nd and 3rd) the battery light comes on and i loose breaks and steering, obv not completely but as if its stalled, quick few taps on the accelerator and it boots back in again as if normal??? anyone else have this problem or know the solution

I got my alternator for £130, a clutch is around £40 ish.
Mine was to far damaged to be repaired so needed a new re-con one, the clutch was fine though.

As for testing it, you check the volts with a multi-meter.

Battery light and brakes (not breaks, please not breaks) and steering sounds more like a slipping belt, losing drive to both alternator and power steering pump. Though why brakes are affected is not clear. That would need something to destroy the manifold vacuum.

What symptom do you get that tells you the brakes have been affected? If you're accelerating then your foot is not on the brake pedal. Is it a warning light, if so which one?

well its only happened twice, the 1st time and the 2nd when i tried to make it happen. its like when the car stalls or the engine is off and the breaks go stiff, but still usuable. no warning lights just the battery light comes on. but like i said the car seems to start back up if i just give it a few quick revs. tested the alternator and thats fine, if it is a slipping belt how can i make it tighter or is this a sign that i need to replace it.

You beat me to it.
as Muttley said sounds for definite like a slipping belt but the brakes bit doesnt add up.

I'd be dropping a new belt on as first port of call then see if the fault persists. Clean off the pulleys before fitting the new belt aswell incase there is oil/coolant contamination causing the slipping.
