Loose steering wheel ! Electrical Problem

Having recently rescued a SEAT Cupra from an evil person for £200 I now have problems to fix !

Firstly and most perplexing is a steering wheel that if you push it toward the dash or pull it toward your chest causes almost all the dashboard lights to come on including the ABS and the engine tio cut out whilst on the move ! very disconcerting !

Has anyone ever come accross this before ? the actual play involved is approx 5mm so nothing dramatic.

Additional signs that all is not well is when i activate the rear wash wipe the internal light comes on ....

Could this also be why the ABS light comes on and off at random times ?

Help ? Please ?

oh and the model is a SEAT Ibiza Cupra 2.0 GTI 16v ABF engine with 81,000 miles

pull the fuses out for the abs and the horn and see if it still does it.
Theyre the only things that are sent to the steering wheel, so if its a loose connection somewhere that may help...

other than that id say an auto electrician is your best bet as its not a common issue, and testing wires will probably be the only way to find it

There are a few connectors behind the steering wheel, quite possibly one of them with an exposed wire or something.

Bargain for £200!! You could sell the engine for more than that?

I am crap at electrics but there are some things you can check for, I would remove the plastic casing around the steering wheel and have a look for broken wires, loose wires, worn wires etc.

You can move the steering wheel up and down, maybe a wire got caught whilst doing this?

Worth a check anyhow.
