I know what you're saying, but I'm assured it's perfectly safe, and we use it on PCs and the like for loads of things. Often, when a computer won't power properly, you remove the power leads and hold the power button in for a few seconds and it has the same effect.

Try searching Google for "touching positive and negative to reset ecu"

Guys, can you help me out with this? My wife has an 05 1.4s Leon, and I've just bought a 52 LCR. She has the fixed key and I have the flip model. Her doors don't have the lock things that go up and down, mine does.

Anyway, when she presses unlock once, the driver side door opens, and when she presses it again the others unlock. Mine on the otherhand never unlocks the other doors. I have to use the panel on the driver door. Is there something I've done, or is it faulty? I have a 30 day warranty with the dealer so I want to get it checked out ASAP.

Thanks all

sorry i havent got time to read the whole thread but i hope this helps. when i got min in august it did EXACTLY the same thing. had to open drivers door and pres sthe interior button to unlock the rest. dealer fixed it under warranty and it was an issue relating to one of the sensors in the alarm and a software fault. makes no sense to me but hopefuly may give you some direction

Thanks Ollie. I resolved it by resetting the ECU, but the car isn't starting as well, so I wonder if that's anything to do with the alarm?
