Location of fuses in Ibiza

Hi,

I've got a month old Seat Ibiza 1.4 DAB and the electric mirrors have stopped working [:@] I thought this could be the fuse that has blown.

It may be a stupid question, but where are the fuses kept on this model? In the handbook it says 'behind a cover on the left-hand side of the dash panel' so for right hand drive models is it at exactly the same place on the right hand side of the panel?

I've opened the drivers door and had a look at this panel but it doesn't seem to want to be removed and I don't want to force anything.

On this model the electric mirrors apply to the glass only of the wing mirrors and not the whole mirror housing but they can be useful when parking especially on the left hand side of the car. I tried them yesterday and nothing!

This is a shame because apart from this (and the lack of rear speakers!) the DAB is a very good car and has lots of features for the price.

Thanks for any help with this.

to remone the pannel get a spoon and feed the handle end into the pannel edge and use it as a lever and then the clips will pop out and the fuse holder is behind there

If you want to fold the mirrors in you have to do it by hand. I always do mine as they are a less tempting target to be kicked off or knocked by a passing car. They are quite expensive to replace.

There is a card in with the fuses to show the location of each fuse but it is a bit confusing as it is a mirror image so it takes a bit of interpretation.

Re: Location of fuses

Thanks for the quick replies!

I have got the cover off now!!

I located fuse number 11 which I think is the correct one, I now need to purchase some fuses.

Lets hope that this is the problem and the mirrors start working.

Thanks for the replies again.

I tried a new fuse and unfortunately the electric mirrors still don't work[:@]
I suspected this would be the case as the fuse I removed didn't look damaged.

Looks like a trip to the local dealers when I have the time!

While I'm there I might get a quote about the fitting of rear speakers although if this is too expensive I might not bother. As rashcupra said the standard Seat speakers are not that great so it might not make much difference.

does the electric mirror swith have a light on when you turn the lights on sure its not the connection behind the doorcard?

Yes the switch does light up when the lights are on. Does this mean the door card connection is OK?

Yes I think I have the correct fuse. I replaced fuse number 11 with a 5 Amp fuse from Halfords. It was part of a pack of assorted mini blade fuses. I presume these are OK to use?

The only other thing is if I have got the wrong fuse number. Fuse number 18 mentions electric mirrors as well according to the handbook, but this is included with other things like instrument panel which are working fine.

well with the engine off and no keys in just pull it out and take a look remember to put the same size fuse back in!! and with the speakers if the wires are there then get some speaker rings then get some cheapish speakers then put them in the back i think they would sound better than what seat will put in...

have you tryed the mirrors with
1. ignition on engine off (doors closed)
2.ignition off (doors closed)
3.engine on (doors closed)

think that the folding mirrors only work with ignition on (engine on or off) are you sure your model doesnt just have heated, electric mirrors and non-fold think on the beezers there is a sign on the mirror switch at the bottom for folding mirrors! maybe you dont have them?

Thanks for the suggestions!

No I don't have electric folding mirrors, it is just the glass in the mirrors which is electrically controlled.

I have tried again with the fuses but everything seems OK there. It looks like I need to contact the dealer about this.

do the mirrors make a noise when you are trying to operate them?? maybe the switch is faulty maybe a trip to the dealers is easier as there are so many problems it could be!

soz couldnt work out in your first post weather you had electric folding mirrors or not soz

I am sure you will have made sure of this already, but just to cover all bases:

Are you sure the mirror switch has been rotated to the L or R position? They won't move if the switch is on the middle position (heated on mine).

The mirror switch in my car is very simple. It just has '0' or 'L' and 'R'. When either left or right is selected and the switch is pushed up or down there is no noise at all and nothing happens.

I know from looking at my handbook that on other Seat's which have electric folding mirrors the switch is more complex. I don't think I have heated mirrors as there is no switch for this but strangely there is a fuse in the relevant slot for this feature!

I just hope this isn't the start of electrical problems with the car. My Dad had a Lancia in the 1980s and that was terrible for these sorts of problems!

Thanks again for all your help,

the heated option on door mirrors is connected to your heated rear screnn swith if you keep this on for a while and feel the mirror should be warm or wait for a frosty morning dont think you will be waiting long with the great british weather

have they changed the wiring on the newer ones then?

AFAIK my brothers pd130 sport mirrors warm up via a thermostat that kicks in when the outside temp gets a bit too low and it has no manual control

his car has a different mirror control surround that has a heated symbol in it
