Jon TDI- I would watch out with the 100W bulbs as the standard ones are only 50W. Apparently the higher wattage bulbs can burn hotter and discolour the headlight plastic and could be a fire hazard in the assembly and also due to the higher current flowing through the wiring.

I definitely recommend Philips X-treme Power +80% for the H7 dipped and Philips Vision Plus +50% for the H1 main. These are much brighter and whiter but are all 50W so no risk.

hmm....im certainly interested in this!! Dan - if this is a goer then i may be tempted to buy at the same time...do these not require a washer for the MOT? Or have i got that completely wrong?

(Obviously not a concern right now but im not sure i'd want to rip it all out come MOT year?!)

this reckons it should have washers and self levelling.

:headhurt:

leviathan18? Do these units have self levelling built in?

Im sure we can get away with not having the washers.

dan i think you can get away without the self leveling as some car doesnt have them the washer is harder but i have the guide in how to put the washer in our cars the self leveling needs 2 sensor in each axle and a control unit expensive and complicated stuff

I'll bear that in mind but I've had a few cars now that I've fitted high wattage bulbs with no problems.

I had chance to test the main beams tonight & I was a little disappointed. :(
For 100W, there isn't a significant increase in light output over the standard 55W.

Fair enough.
Theres always the possibility that the ECU or other circuitry is current limiting and so only giving the new 100W bulbs the same 50W.
A cool thing I found when upgrading to the +80% bulbs was that road signs a good distance up the road would glow making them much easier to see and read. I noticed this before when following a car with Xenons. Higher output or whiter light playing a part somewhere.

I changed my bulbs pretty much as soon as I got the car so never really got a solid back to back comparison, but upgradin the bulbs is now something I will do on every new car. (At least until xenons become standard)
