sounds about an average stealer rip-off!

my old ford mondeo (ahem) was about 140-150; the wife's old fiat punto (1.2) was near to 200!!!

I thought 10k was a normal service not an oil change & filter one?!
?
Oil and Oil filter replacement with lights , levels , lube and checks.
That is mormal.

the 10K Annual service is the expensive because its a lube service and a normal one too,

the normal 10k service is only £66, for cars that are needing a serivce but less than 12 months old only.

so in short there are two 10k services.

My dealer told me to have the 10k lube and 20k before the end of the first year because i will of done 20k in the first year from registration

SO ur saying this M8
"the normal 10k service is only £66"
does that mean if my car is under 12months old & it is ! can u get the 10k oil & filter change if thats all thats basically done at 10k if your car is under 12months old (It will be 10months old when this is due for me) should i be asking my dealer for this ???
or will they mention this ???

or will they ask me back in at a yr old wanting something else doin ???

help !!!

currently at 9.4k !! yikes !!!

Best thing is that Millers Oil XFE-PD is only around £25 for 5 litres !! saving that for when the warranty runs out ;)

after 3 yrs it wont be near any dealers unless they are sensible prices....

With apologies for repeating myself (I've said this before...)

You don't need to take your car to a "dealer" for its services!

For a while now it's been a legal requirement for car manufacturers to honour the warranty regardless of where it was serviced, provided it was serviced according to the procedures, and kosher parts and oil were used. Here is a page on the Office of Fair Trading's website that demonstrates this.

Find a decent independent garage. Ask them how many VW TDI engines they service, and make sure they know what "505.01" means. Make sure they know you want a warranty-compatible service. They'll stamp your book, and you can keep the receipts and invoices to prove that the correct work was done. Your warranty will remain perfectly intact.

Dealers rely on the fact that most people think you must go there. So the quality of their work matters a lot less to them because they're guaranteed a steady stream of customers. They have a vested interest in preserving their mystique, but we all have experience of main dealers who have done crap work, don't we?

A good independent will take more care with their work because they want you to come back - and they'll often be a helluva lot cheaper.

The lube service is basically if your car is gonna cover high milage in one year like mine, i asked the dealer how much my 10k was and he asked me the age and milages which is 4 months a nearly 10k, he said get the 10klube service otherwise you'll pay twice for the major one within a year, ie the 10k and a 20k.

I wouldnt like to try and get warranty work done without dealer stamps - they will try anuthing to get out of it! There is something so satisfying about dropping your car of at the dealer for a service - even if i am going to get ripped off. The other advantage is that i am dropping the FR off today and picking up a new Leon TDi to test so no shoddy courtesy car from a little garage.

Then you just need to be firmer with them and let them know that you are aware of your rights in this area. It's only by people asserting themselves that we'll break the dealers' monopoly.

You obviously find satisfaction in very different things from myself!

I have just been quoted £306 by my dealer in Newbury. for the 20k service of my 14 month old 1.9TDi CUPRA !!!

should I travel to Oxford to my other nearest dealer or find an independant garage?
I know I am being riped off but I just want you chaps to tell me...

(anybody know of a good garage in the south oxford, west berkshire area?)

Hmmmmm !

Got this reply from my Dealer today as i was asking about the 10k service etc etc
Please let me know what you all recon ???

There are basically 2 types of services these are as follows: -

Oil change (lube service) which is basically an oil and filter change the
cost of this is £113.84
The second type is the annual inspection 10k service, which changes your oil
and filter also, however it checks over the whole vehicle also. The cost of
this service is £165.96.

To keep your cost of servicing down I would suggest that you have the annual
service done now rather than paying again when the vehicle is 1 year old.

Should you be doing more miles over the next 12 months I would be able to
advise you accordingly on the service schedule to follow.

SEAT state that you can go 1000 miles either side, so you would be fine as
long as you did not go over 11,000 miles.

£113 to just change Oil & Filter !!
Someones making 200% markup eh!!!

Priced Eq up2 spec oil & Filter 2day change just outta £30 inc VAT !!
If i can buy it for that the dealer must be able to do it for even less at COST
Howay i have been changing Oil in all sorts of engines for 15 odd years !!
it canna be that difficult !!
Even if you allowed an hours labour its twice what it should be !!
ney wonder we get 3 yr warranties !! we pay loads for them !

Thats me moan ower for today...

Lube Serive at GK is 66 for petrol and 88 for TDI plus VAT i guess, I checked the same today, the lube service is designed for high milage use. i.e more than 10 per year, so mine will have a lube and a 20k in the first year which is cheaper than a 10k full and a 20k full service

I keep mine serviced with Main dealer purely for re-sale value, I know people like to see the VW stamp right the way through the service book its extremely important to most people and shouldn't be!!
