I think I need a new clutch, well, am pretty certain I do. I think I'm still driving around on the original one (Would be 10years/50k miles and starting to go smelly). What clutch options are available for it?

In the various VW's I've had previously people have robbed clutches from various other models (Golfs/Passats/Scirrocco) As some fit and are either cheaper, longer lasting, able to cope with more power, are larger, etc etc etc.

Is this the same for the Ibiza's or should I just search for a mk2 8v one?

I had a new clutch put in mine in March at 13 years and 104,000 miles. My car was rechipped at the age of 4, so I spent 9 years and approx 65,000 miles with 136bhp and 150 ish lb/ft of torque. In addition, in the past couple of years I'd done 10 or so track days.

It wasn't slipping or smelling - it was just getting difficult to drive - no gradual biting point, it was either fully engaged or not. Made hill starts interesting. I decided to get it changed given it does get a real pasting out on track.

After doing some research and talking to people, I was advised that the best thing to do is to get an authentic VAG clutch for an 8v. They have a lot of capacity in reserve and you'll be unlikely to get anywhere near its torque limit with a tuned 8v.

I paid £95 plus vat for a full VAG clutch kit. No idea how long to fit it as was done with some other work. Hope that helps you.

cheers mate thats very helpful. Didn't know whether to hunt for a 16v one or swap it for something else.

I phoned my local GSF type place earlier and gave me a quote of £88 plus vat but said it was an authentic part. Apparently if I go to Seat I'd only be provided the exact same item but in a different wrapper. He said it was made by ATG or something (dont think it was ATE!)
