Very good review. I get the impression that this model is being seriously overlooked, with everyone waiting for the FR and Cupra. It looks very good value, especially when you consider the equipment, which is better than the Octavia vRS, and the fact that places like Broadspeed are doing them for about £14500. OK it's about a half a second slower to 60 mph than the vRS but try counting half a second – is that really an issue?

The looks have definitely grown on me and every time I see one on the road it is instantly recognisable. Nice car!:)

I looked at the VRS, but as you say it's more expensive, has less kit as standard, (no climate, cruise, curtain airbags etc.) and it has a significantly lower safety rating than the Leon which was my main concern. I've found the space in the new Leon for the family to be fine, seems to be much more legroom in the rear than the Mk1. (I think the bottom of the front seats seem to be shaped cleverly so you can get your feet under them a lot easier)

I still think that if you want a Cupra for the outright speed then you should probably wait, however the TFSI has got plenty of power, oodles of torque compared to my last car (a Honda vtec), and I prefer not being bound to the narrow rev band of the Deisel myself. After all the TFSI has more power than the Mk1 Leon Cupras(180bhp) when they came out and everyone raved about them !

..plus it's the same engine as the Golf GTI or vRs, so you can chip it to the same 240bhp if you want. That's one hell of an increase!

good review that
does anyone know how much it costs to have the stearing reset as stated in the review
"The gearchange and cornering grip are good too. But if I owned one I’d whip it straight into a VAG dealer and have the steering weight re-set heavier via the OBDII port. As mine came, it was too light and feel-free but all current VAG electro hydraulic steering can be re-set by the garage to six different levels of assistance."
as i would like it done

If you've just spent the thick end of 15k on a new car from their dealership I would think they may do it for nothing.
Failing that it can be done via VAG COM, I'm sure someone local to you will do it for a few beer tokens. Ibiza and Fabia owners have been doing this for years!
