Hi guys. I've just part exchanged my MY01 Leon Curpa for a My05 Leon FR+ Tdi (the one with the Cupra R bodykit and alloys). I get it on Thursday and can't wait!

I've asked my current insurance company (First Alternative) to move the cover to my new car. I told them that the car comes with Cupra R bodykit and alloys and they have said that will increase my premium by £197 and my excess will go up from £150 to £350!!!! Considering that the FR Tdi is group 13 insurance and my old Cupra was group 16 and the fact that the bodykit was factory supplied/fitted I think this is a bit of cheek!

I just wanted to ask anyone who has an FR+ if you told your insurance company that you had the Cupra R bodykit on your FR+ and did it increase your premium. If I didn't tell them about the bodykit would it make a difference if I later claimed? I've been getting quotes from lots of insurance companies on the net but they dont have the FR+ Tdi listed on their systems....

Any help would be appreciated!

no just told them its a FR (what it says on the log book) as you say the extra kit comes as standard so you should you pay extra!

I didn't realise (until I came on this website!) that there was such a thing as an FR+!! Is that an official SEAT name?

As you say, FR+ wasn't listed on any insurance companie's website, so I just put it down as FR...

Not sure if it is a official SEAT thing or just what people call them.

Ok.

My view is: Seat sold me an FR, so that's what I insured...

The usual question "Any modifications from manufacturer's specification?" doesn't really apply in this case, as the Cupra bumpers are effectively "standard"...

Definitely not, it's standard as it came from the factory, so I insured mine as a new 55 plate FR, as no other such FR existed at that time anyway. (I don't think an FR+ really existed either did it? Mine is just badged an FR) As you say, if anyone's made modifications from the original manufacturer's spec, it's Seat, but that's how they've sold and marketed the FR at that time, therefore not your problem.

I suppose if you've stipulated that it has this and that, then they're probably not on the right wavelength, and assume you've added them yourself and therefore a risky boyracer who's going to present them with more risk.

In real life, speed bumps will slow you down due to the low slung bumpers, and the wheels are the same size as normal FR ones anyway :p

Cheers

Hmmm... Wasn't sure what you meant about "only the R wheels", but they're the same as mine...

I prefer them to the FR wheels to be honest.

It's amazing how much difference the bumper makes actually, whether for better or worse. I was never that bothered about it when he was selling it to me, but it's more different than I remembered when the dealer was showing me the two side by side.

Here's what one looks like with the Cupra body and (17") wheels. I love your interior by the way mate, very swish!

surely the question from the insurer is "has it been modified?"
in which, the answer is "no", coz it's factory standard.
FR+ existed as a marketing ploy, along with the "revolution deal" (£2500 below list price)

at the end of the day, the FR+ is an FR that was more saleable.

Statistically there are no differences. When it comes to re-sale, there should be no difference in book price, although, the FR+ may sell quicker, and nearer to the book price :)

Are they seventeen or eighteens (ie 'FR Plus' or actual Cupra R?)

Cupra Diesels had different 17s didn't they? Did petrol ones have the 18s by then once they'd left the 16" multispokes of the normal Cupras behind? I don't think Cupras were ever actually fitted with the wheels I have on mine were they, only 18" versions?

Mine are 17" as well, no FR, + - x or / ever had 18s as standard, only LCRs... I did not know that was where the 17" Cupra wheels came from (the Ibiza), learn something new every day. They must have been big prints for a car that size with those wide tyres.

I reckon your interior makes up for the bumper anyway (and that's probably less of a speedbump liability anyway)

Rob

imho, the Cupra 17"s look very bland and don't do the car any justice.
The FR deep-dish 5-spokes look cool, but the wide spoke of the Cupra r alloy really sets the shape of the car on it's haunches, (kinda "ready to take you on and win")

Gives the car some extra "attitude" :funk:

ibiza cupra alloys are different to the fr cupra alloys the ibiza ones are curved from the middle where as the leon ones are flat faced ( looking from front of wheel the leon looks like this l and ibiza looks like this) ) if you get me
