Leon TDI 110 power loss

For the last six months occasionally there would be a lack of power above 50 mph. It was around the time I had disconnected EGR valve, I thought it may have been linked to that or the MAF was playing up. But I thought it was a bit early for the MAF since the car is four years old with 44k on the clock.

But I found the problem on the weekend, the rear cover from the fog was in air intake vent. A few minutes work with a screw driver and everything is back to normal. It’s something worth checking if your car is unresponsive a higher speeds. Please don’t ask why I had my hand in there in first place ……

On the Leon there is a hole next to the front fog light on the drivers side, this is the engine air intake.

Out of curiosity I put my hand in there and found the back on the fog light cover loose in the vent. It couldn’t have been doing the air flow any favours.

It could well be the intercooler inlet, either way it getting blocked would not help matters. I hope it is the intercooler duct, since having the air intake that close to the ground always makes me a little concerned when there is a lot standing water on the roads.

Great news, it won’t be such a buttock clenching moment if I encounter any flooded roads.

Thanks
