Well yeah the cones will probably be paper, but the amp is everything with any sound system.

I was thinking about maybe adding some RCA outs to the HU for a small sub, but it's just hassle, and as JamJay says, lightweight is where I'm going at the moment. When I did have a huge stereo I was too self-concious about it and never turned it up for fear of looking like a knob.

Thats why i turn mine down when i approach traffic lights at a junction if i have it up loud lol

But even at a normal level the sound quality is far superior to standard stuff

*shakes head* they might be good compared to some stuff but they're a league behind the Audi stuff. Take an A4 or something to bits and there's about twice the sound deadening, more clips on stuff etc etc. If you're going to upgrade the audio in the Leon, you need to pay attention to the interior rattles - there's more than you might think.

Key factors

I always factor in: speakers that are double the RMS output of your amp (approx) and just make sure that the sensitivity is 90db+ (higher the number the better). Will allow you to drive the speakers harder more easily (with the same output). Similarly take into account ohms resistance on your speakers, so ideally go for a lower rated resistance e.g. 4 ohms instead of 8.

You want a layer of panel damping on each surface, no more than 25% coverage needed. Pieces of dynamat will work fine.

Then you want a layer of sound insulating material, closed cell foam is ideal, covering the entire panel.

Then you want a sound barrier layer that covers the entire panel area on top of the barrier foam.

The idea is that the damping panels stop the panel from resonating, the foam layer insulates the panel from the sound barrier and the barrier layer keeps music in and road noise out.

As far as I can tell from a LOT of reading, there is little or no need to cover your entire car in 32 layers of dynamat I did the entire interior of the Honda for less than £150 and i doubt i've added more than 12kg in total.

Yes mate, LCR has a much better sound system. I used to have the standard tat in my old mk1 which was immediately replaced by an alpine HU with sony components and two 12" subs with a phoenix gold amp (yeah I was younger then). When I got my LCR I was going to put all of my stereo stuff (except the 12's) in, but I never felt the need. The standard stereo in the LCR is really good I reckon, perfect for peeps like me who like the OEM look.

LCR doesnt have a better sound system. All the later mk1 Leons all have the same head units, speakers etc..

Sorry, I was presuming it was an LCR thing, all I know for sure is that my 52 plate had a crap system and my 05 LCR has a great one (considering it's stock).
